Move Reminders from the Menu to the Task Attributes
Current behavior In ClickUp, to set a reminder for a task, users must open the overflow menu (the “…” button or right‑click) and select “Remind me in Inbox.” While the feature works, its placement creates several usability issues: · Hidden location – Reminders are a time‑based property, yet they live inside a menu that also contains infrequent actions like Copy Task ID, Archive, and Delete. Users often overlook it. · Disconnect from Dates – The Due Date field is prominently displayed in the task’s attribute section, but reminders are completely separate. There is no visual or logical link between the two, even though they naturally belong together. · Extra steps – Setting a reminder currently takes three or more clicks, which discourages adoption. As a result, many users either forget to use reminders or assume ClickUp does not offer them. Proposed solution I recommend moving the Reminders setting out of the menu and placing it directly in the task’s attribute panel, immediately below or next to the Dates field. The name should remain “Reminders” – it is clear, matches existing ClickUp terminology, and users already understand it. Why this location Dates and reminders are two sides of the same coin: the due date tells you when a task is expected, and the reminder tells you when you will be notified. Putting them side by side respects this relationship. Users setting a due date can instantly decide how far in advance they want to be alerted, without hunting through menus. Suggested interaction design Field appearance In the task detail view, add a dedicated “Reminders” row. For example: ``` Dates Mar 22 – Mar 22 9:00 PM Reminders ▼ 10 minutes before ``` Options Provide a dropdown with common offsets relative to the due date: · None · At time of due date · 5 minutes before · 10 minutes before · 15 minutes before · 30 minutes before · 1 hour before · Custom (specific date and time) Due Date & Reminder linkage When a user changes the due date, ClickUp should ask whether to update the reminder accordingly. A simple inline prompt (“Reminder time is based on due date. Update it?”) with options “Yes,” “Keep original,” or “Adjust manually” would prevent stale reminders and reduce cognitive load. Priority‑aware default For tasks marked High or Urgent, a smart default (e.g., “15 minutes before”) could be pre‑selected or suggested, encouraging users to set reminders for their most important tasks. Notification delivery Reminders should continue to use ClickUp’s existing notification system – Inbox, push notifications, and email. Since the name remains “Reminders,” users will intuitively understand that enabling this setting will send them a notification. No rebranding is needed. Why keep the name “Reminders” · Consistency – ClickUp already uses “Reminders” in other contexts (e.g., in notifications). Changing it to “Alert me” or “Notify me” would introduce unnecessary fragmentation. · Familiarity – Users across platforms (iOS, macOS, etc.) associate “Reminders” with timely notifications. Keeping the name avoids confusion. · Simplicity – One clear name is easier to document and teach. What about the existing menu item The current “Remind me in Inbox” entry in the overflow menu can be retained as a shortcut for quickly adding a default reminder (e.g., “10 minutes before due date”). However, the main, discoverable configuration should always be the attribute‑panel field. Expected benefits · Higher adoption – Exposing reminders prominently will significantly increase usage, especially for time‑sensitive tasks. · Fewer missed tasks – Users will set reminders more naturally, reducing late or forgotten work. · Cleaner information architecture – Grouping time‑related attributes (Dates and Reminders) makes ClickUp’s task view more logical and easier to scan. · Reduced clicks – What currently takes several steps becomes a single selection in the attribute panel. Conclusion Reminders are a core time‑management feature, yet in ClickUp they are currently buried inside a menu. By moving the “Reminders” field next to “Dates” and keeping the name unchanged, the product would offer a more intuitive, discoverable, and efficient experience. This change aligns with how users naturally think about tasks: first set a due date, then decide when to be reminded. I hope this request is considered for a future release. Thank you for building such a powerful tool, and for continuously improving its usability.
