Add/Edit tasks in a split screen instead of overlay modal
in progress

Basically, what was said here, but it seems the sidebar aspect is being overlooked/unacknowledged from what I can see: https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/edit-tasks-inline-or-on-a-sidebar
This is the major thing I find difficult with migrating from Asana to Clickup. Having the modal cover up everything and having to close it is bothersome. Asana's design choice in this regard is just far more pleasing to the eye and uses less clicks. I prefer the task items to not fill up the whole screen anyway, finding the feeling on my eyes rather similar to websites that let paragraphs stretch wider than they ought to (making them uncomfortable to read).
Making the split screen an option (rather than mandatory) at least would be acceptable. Other than an on/off switch, this is pretty much a front-end feature.
The screenshot I've annotated comes from an official Asana tutorial, so credits to there.

🌈 OMG YESSSSSSSS! I think one of the goals in creating the best UX is LESS CLICKS - this will help tremendously. Of course for folks who like it open all the way- there should be an option for them too to keep it that way @zeb YAY LESS CLICKS in ClickUp!

We're working on this feature now!
Patrick Kofler
@Zeb: This is great to hear! Looking forward to it :)
Pascal Zweipfenning
@Zeb: Nice!
Jakolien - Demo Account
@Zeb: YASSSS! The 1 feature I missed #bouncingupanddownfromjoy Any idea on the ETA Zeb?

Indigo Locomotive
@Zeb: now means we can expect it in about 1 year, as speed optimization was request over one year ago and its still getting slower? or may i ask to give some kind of timeframe instead of "now" thanks!
Guy Mannerings
@Zeb: Please make this optional. I can see why some people would like it, but, speaking for myself, I much prefer having a full screen view of tasks because 1. you can focus more on one thing rather than being distracted by others, and 2. you can see more information on the screen at a time, which is good when you put lots of text in the description area, etc.
Indigo Locomotive
@Guy Mannerings: oh you think this will not be optional? this MUST be optional. omg hopefully they are not adding this as one way ticket!!! but since we know how its done in here it will get the one and only option. :/

@Zeb: Great to hear Zeb! As a prerequisite, maybe you can ensure list view items are not hidden when a task is open, and roll that out first? That's a change that we noticed a few months ago and was baffling because it's not compatible with split view.

Hey @Jakolien - Demo Account & @Indigo Locomotive! We're estimating for this early Q2, if not earlier🙂
Waleed Elaghil
Hey @Guy Mannerings! It will be optional 🙂
Guy Mannerings
@Waleed Elaghil: Awesome! Thanks for letting me know.
Waleed Elaghil
Hey @Serge! That's a great point. I've surfaced it to the team 🙂
Jason Stone
@Zeb: I'm very excited to see this Feature Request being implemented. I agree with others that is should be an option. I'd like to be able to single-click a task to display that task in the Preview Pane, or double-click the task to open the task in overlay mode (or even separate window).
Waleed Elaghil
That's a great idea, @Jason Stone. I'll pass this to the team!

@Waleed Elaghil: This is a good idea, so in Options you'd select the default view on click, and then you can set a custom shortcut like Ctrl+Click to open the other view type.
Guy Mannerings
@Waleed Elaghil: Hi Waleed. While addressing this request with the team, could you also feedback to the team about getting a proper full-screen task view? So when you open a task, rather than having borders around it where you can see the rest of ClickUp behind, you get a full-screen (or almost full-screen) view?
There's currently a very large border around a task when it opens, which is a massive waste of space and means you can't see as much information in one go as you could with a real full-screen view.
It also means you brain is inherently less focused, because you can still see other parts of ClickUp around the task, which can be distracting.
Waleed Elaghil
Hey @Guy Mannerings! I'll make sure to pass this to the team 🙂
Guy Mannerings
@Waleed Elaghil: Thanks!

@Waleed Elaghil: with all the frontend features like dark-mode, dark-sidebar, layout, highcontrast mode and potentially this split screen, it would be great to control them all from one "frontend settings page". currently these settings are spread in different places.

couple options here already. If using web browser you can just open another tab for the additional tasks. Or us the "Minimize" task feature to save it for later.

Yes, this feature is crucial. There's always a lag time when I click on the task to open details and because of that, I NEVER even use the task details feature. Kinda makes have of Clickups features useless, since it's not convenient/fast to actually use the task details feature. Because of this, I add details in the task description and notes in the columns. Because of that, my Lists are really cluttered and my Clickup Lists are almost too cluttered to even use. I looked into switching to Wrike because of the clutter, but they don't offer some of the great features that Clickup does. So, I'm sticking with Clickup for now, but if the task detail just popped up on the side without any lag time, then I would definitely use the task details feature, and it would totally declutter the rest of my Lists, and it would be a GAME CHANGER. Here's a picture from Wrike that does this very well.
