💡 "Pinned" sidebar task view
planned
Carson
I'd love to see a task sidebar view that is fixed, rather than floating off to the right. Even on my laptop screen, there'd be enough screen real-estate to scrunch the main ClickUp view into a central column, and have a fixed/pinned task sidebar view on the right. I don't like how this sidebar view covers up the whole right side of the main ClickUp area. What if the information I'm trying to reference by using the Task-Sidebar view is only visible on the right side of ClickUp's main view? 😂
All in all, though, it's a great start, and it's very helper in many other use cases.

I would also love a quick way to hide a sidebar Task to the side temporarily, then re-open it just as quickly.
Like if you want to interact on the screen below, you could click an arrow that hides the current sidebar Task, then click another arrow to pull it back out.
Right now, your option is to use Task Tray (not ideal, as it's slow for this purpose, and you have to remember to remove the Task from it after), or use the "Recents" area of search.
But if there was an arrow on sidebar Task view that would hide it and re-show it quickly, that would be really helpful.

The drop shadow on sidebar task view seems to have been lost with the Chat UI update.

"Planned" for over a year. This is so annoying for an otherwise preferable layout. what's the latest on this Ivan Villa?

Ivan Villa - is this one still planned? Current "floating" task side-bar is not useable as intended due to the inaccessible cards under the side-bar.

I'm asking the same thing. The current sidebar view is useless, it covers part of the UI, it appears twice in the inbox if you have the split view. It doesn't make any sense. Its crazy that it's been broken for more that a year.

Some comments concerning the new sidebar task view:
1.Scaling to more than 50%
Scaling of the sidebar is now limited to maximum 50% of the screen. This makes that the area shown in red in the screenshot is lost for me. I would only like to see the task name in the list view and the rest of the screen should be used for the sidebar task view.
For my use case it is important that I can still select tasks on the left. A complete overlay as suggested by others, would not work for me. Without the possibility to interact with the list view on the left, my use case is not possible.
2.Scroll to the right or Split screen
As mentioned by Jakolien Sok, it would be nice, if scrolling in the left list view would work. Or you should make a real split view out of it, as mentioned by other users.
3.Stay on Activity tab
Currently the sidebar always returns the the Details tab, when I open a new task. During meetings I am quickly going through tasks, look at the Activities and write comments. Currently I always have to click on Activity again and it takes 2-3 seconds to switch. It would be better, to stay on the Activity tab when a new task is selected, as long as the sidebar is not closed.

when the side view is open you can't scroll to the right?
Jakolien Sok
If you have the side view in tasks open and f.i. you are in a board then you cannot scroll to the right on the board. It 'bumps' into the side view and stops. You need to close the side view to continue to scroll. Doesn't make sense to me?

Interaction with task sidebar is unclear.
Joshua D'Antonio
It is confusing the way the task sidebar view interacts with the rest of the UI at the moment. It appears on the right and covers part of the Ui beneath as if it was an overlay, but the rest of the UI rests interactive as it was a split-screen kind of view. This is confusing.
If the sidebar is meant to overlay, it should not be possibile to interact with the UI beneath unless you close it; it should also be a lot faster and pleasant to open/close (at the moment it kind of "builds"). Instead, if it's meant to be a split-screen view, then the rest of the UI should wrap on the left without hiding anything under the sidebar itself.
What is your opinion about it?

When this pinned sidebar view is done I'd like to be able to see a tasks's details, updates & relationships at the same time when in sidebar view. My screen has plenty of space for it, so hiding this info in tabs is a loss of functionality for me.
Could be easy to add a toggle for each of details, updates & relationships. So someone who likes to see details and updates but not relationships could just toggle those two on, and relationships would remain in a tab.

I've already chatted with a few folks in person but this is panned. The version you see now is our quick version just to get something for beta but we plan to work on better version that works with all views! :)

Totally agree, I can't have a task open and clear notifications!
