Multi-Interval Task Scheduling | Multiple start/due dates on the same task
beta
Maja Gruden
Hey! How do I plan the same task on more different days - e.g. 3h today and 2h tomorrow, BUT with specified "from-to" hours for each day, not just draging it accross 2 days.
I'd like to be able to work on the same task a few hours every day, however don't want to use the recurring trigger as the task doesn't show up in the calendar until the trigger is activated.
Currently I duplicate the same task and schedule it on different days.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi, this looks like something I needed yester-year. Vasil Enchev, I've signed up for the beta, any chance you could turn the feature on?

Calendar is the main view I use all the time to manage my workload within the app, is this beta-feature planned to be pushed to all views outside of Workload? (or at least to calendar from my point of view).
Is there a beta for other views?
Guy Mannerings
One thing I would love is to be able to expose the Work Sessions as a property in List view.
So you could see the number of work sessions planned for a Task, the total time allocated to work sessions for a Task (and could even break that down to this week/next 2 weeks/this month), number of previous work sessions, etc.
It could be like "Time in Status", where you get on option of how you display it.
Then, you could click the cell, and it pops-up showing you all the work sessions (the same way the "Linked Tasks" column does - where it pops up showing you the linked Tasks).
I plan my week, and in list view, I manually add a column "number of hours planned this week". It would be cool if I could do the same with Work Sessions.

Fellow ClickUppers, I have exciting news to share with you!
We’re getting ready to beta test this feature
Multi-Interval Task Scheduling
— split one task into multiple time blocks
(each with its own start/end) so work that starts, pauses, and resumes stays in one
task. No extra subtasks, better capacity signals.Josue Lony

Vasil Enchev will this enhancement be able to support multiple start/end dates per assignee?
Mara
Vasil Enchev If it only on Workload, it means every Unlimited Plan User can't use it.
Vasil Enchev
Josue Lony for president?
Vasil Enchev
Jel Fermindoza Absolutely! As many as you like per assignee, the only limitation we will enforce is they need to have different dates, in case of dates overlap for the same assignee the system is designed to merge those shecdules / allocations into one.
Vasil Enchev
Mara This feature is coming to workload first, but it's also planned for the calendar and inside the task view. I'm unable to comment on pricing as there is another team working on that right now.
Jel Fermindoza
Vasil Enchev Just to confirm, this can now work with this scenario?
Assignee A
Start/End 1: Day 1-7
Start/End 2: Day 10-20
Assignee B
Start/End 1: Day 1-5
Start/End 2: Day 10-20
If yes, are we also able to allocate different estimated hours per Start/End dates? Something like this:
Assignee A
Start/End 1: Day 1-7 w/ Estimated Hours: 40 Hrs
Start/End 2: Day 10-20 w/ Estimated Hours: 100 Hrs
Assignee B
Start/End 1: Day 1-5 w/ Estimated Hours: 20 Hrs
Start/End 2: Day 10-20 w/ Estimated Hours: 50 Hrs
Vasil Enchev
Jel Fermindoza precisely! checking all boxes above, I would love to hear about your use case for this feature!

Vasil Enchev This is very exciting and has been needed from day 1 - I have been personally massively pushing for this, so it's really great you are doing it!
Great stuff!
🙌🙌But it's a shame that you are starting with Workload view, considering List View/Task view/Calendar view and probably Planner view are the main places of ClickUp that I am sure the majority of users are working from.
I really want to be able to go to a Task from Task View/List View/Planner View/Calendar View and choose multiple work sessions, and then see those work sessions as a property in Task View and List View, as well as on Calendar and Planner.
I have literally never used Workload view as a (practically) solo user.
Guy Mannerings
Vasil Enchev Just looking at the documentation, it doesn't seem to quite be clear/be the same as what you are saying here.
Can you confirm:
- We can split Tasks in to more than 2 work sessions? The documentation says "split in two" but also mentions unlimited sessions.
- That we will (eventually, at least) be able to see these Work Sessions in Planner view and List view (I see you said above that it will be in Task view and Calendar view).

Also, something to consider:
Anywhere in ClickUp that we can display/group Tasks by Due Date should have the OPTION to also display Work Sessions happening on that day.
E.g., I really want to be able to see Work Sessions on List View so I can see them in my weekly planner (which is a custom List view, NOT the one given in "My Tasks").
So I don't necessarily just want to see the main Due Date in my List view - I want the
option
to be able to see Work Sessions for Tasks as well. But how will they display if I am grouping by Due Date? If the Work Session is not the main Due Date, will they still group under Due Date "Today" if the grouping of a List is "Due Date"?
I hope that makes sense. Basically,
maybe there needs to be a toggle option for grouping by Due Date to INCLUDE Work Sessions happening today.
(It should be an option, because some people might not want to see Work Sessions - they might just want to see hard Due Dates). I think that would be an easy way to approach it.Guy Mannerings
Vasil Enchev Sorry, one last thing.
Does this mean work sessions will finally be decoupled from Due Date?
ClickUp has had an ongoing problem of treating Due Date the same as Work On date. This has always created huge problems across CU when trying to allocate Work On time separate to Due Date/time, but some features work purely on Due Date (like Calendar, My Tasks, etc).
Start and Due Date should be FIRM and rarely move. Work sessions can move frequently.
So obviously you are now creating Work Sessions as a property.
But does this mean other areas will now treat Due Dates as ACTUAL HARD Due Dates, and understand that Work Sessions are different things?
Suggest looking at this feedback post, which is really what this is about: https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/time-blocking-1

Mara's idea is perfect for this. We work like this in Jira, using a tool called Teamboard, from DevSamurai. I would love to have this feature here in Clickup, since I'm trying to move my company here.
Please prioritize this, it's one of the few features we're missing to make a decision.

It would be perfect if, when developing this functionality, the same functionality were also developed automatically in the workload view. For example,
Initially, these two tasks are planned as follows:
task 1 (80h from 4/11 to 15/11);
task 2 (8h on 18/11).
When placing/draging task 2 to between task 1 in the workload, the multiple start/due date are automatically set for task 2, as following:
task 1 (80h from 4/11 to 11/11; and from 13/11 to 18/11)
task 2 (8h on 12/11).

Yesss I want to manually edit the recurrences by different start and due dates on a task.
It'd be even better if I could somehow see the taks on the same line on a gantt and/or timeline view. And on these views I could move around the dates for the task instance.

Yes need multiple sessions same task visible in calendar without using subtasks and custom dates more than just recurring date rules

Yes agreed, I would love to be able to schedule multiple and recurring daily reminders for the same task. I found a workaround by creating 3 subtasks, copying the name of the main task into the reminder, and scheduling different due dates for each subtask. But this is a lot of work.
Wishlist: I would like the option to automatically have every new task become a reminder and then schedule multiple daily recurring reminders from there. Also would like the recurring default to be daily, not weekly.
