More precise filters in Gantt View
planned
Matheus Trombetta
I have 10 folders, 30 lists and 100 tasks. When I am on the workspace's gantt chart displaying a full overview of my department and I create any kind of filter (eg: assignee, priority, tags), it is supposed to display only the filtered tasks with their corresponding parents. Instead, Clickup shows every single Folder and List with their major timeline (but with no tasks inside) and it's really impossible to focus the analysis on whats is really important because there is lot of garbage on the screen. It makes the filter almost unusable.

Any update on this planned feature? I want to show a Gantt chart of milestones in order of due date across tasks but regardless of the parent tasks.

Even though I’ve added filters to include only certain tags, the Gantt view still groups tasks by list, making it difficult to see the schedule for my tasks and subtasks. I have to manually expand each task to view details, and due to the length of the Gantt chart, it's hard to see dependencies clearly.
I’d prefer to see just the tasks and be able to expand the subtasks, rather than having everything grouped by list. This would provide a clearer, more manageable view of tasks and dependencies. I’ve had no issues working with Instagantt and Notion, as they allow for breaking away from lists in their views.

Juan Grandas Could this please be made a priority? This is the number 1 thing that ahs stopped me using Gantt charts since they were released.
If I filter to only show tasks/lists/folders from a certain location, it should only shows those ones matching the filter.
Instead, it shows all the folders in parent Space, along with a long grey bar that represents their dates.
I just want to see the things I have filtered for.
I would also like the option to not see any parent folder that a filtered List/Task in in. I don't necessarily need to see the parent folder (which adds visual clutter). This should be a toggle option.
Juan Grandas
Hey Guy Mannerings,
I understand that this may not address every one of your scenarios but we have the 'hide empty locations' toggle found within Customize view>Layout options which will show or hide Spaces, Folders, and Lists without tasks that do not match the current filter criteria.
Hide parent folder is something that we'll look into.
Currently we're focusing on adding custom field support to the Gantt and streamlining performance.
With that, we'll absolutely recognize that filters to be sound so we're scoping filter improvements based on requests to allow for more granular control while trying to take care of anything that's not behaving as it should.
If you notice any bugs, please send them over, and I’ll work to prioritize them.

Juan Grandas Thanks, Juan! I did try that button, but it seemed to be inconsistent in whether it hid those things. Perhaps it was just a temporary bug.
Glad to hear you're on it!

Yes, we’re actively working on this. Our goal is to improve filters so you can target specific subtask levels, allowing you to focus on the tasks you need as you navigate higher levels of the hierarchy or complex work breakdowns.
Guy Mannerings
Juan Grandas Sounds good!
It has been a pain to see all the higher levels in the hierarchy when you only want a specific level, so glad you are on that.
A few other related things:-
1. The Green Bar for Locations
One thing I do find is that the green bar that shows a Folder/List's dates is unclear in how it works. Sometimes it seems to extend to the furthest Due Date of any Task. Sometimes it does not. (Bug?)
2. Folder/List Start and Due Dates
I also find that if I set Start and Due dates on a List/Folder, this has no effect on the Gantt chart. Surely the green bar for a List/Folder should match the dates set for the List/Folder?
As it is, the List/Folder dates seems to have no effect at all.
3. Hide empty locations wording
On the current topic, one suggestion. I find the wording "hide empty locations" to not be accurate.
That naming suggests to me that it will hide any location that has no Task with a Start or Due Date in it.
But it doesn't. What it does is hide locations that have no Tasks that match the filter.
I suggest renaming it to "hide locations that do not match filter", and possibly moving it to the Filter settings area above the Gantt chart.
Then you could have a separate toggle that says "hide locations without Tasks with Start or Due Dates", which is a feature you presently don't have.
These things can, of course, be done with filters with the current toggle, but this may make thins clearer.

I think ALL filters need some work. I keep adding filters to my views and then they stop working and start pulling in data I don't need. I'm having this trouble on my List views as well.
Joshua Borger
Yes, need this update! I need the spaces, folders, and lists to hide when I set a filter, not just show up empty.

Not almost unusable... totally unusable. Totally agreed. The Gantt filters need a lot of improvement. Glad to have found this issue and vote on it!
We use the Gantt view in only one list... to track our greenhouse production schedule. We sow trays nearly every day, and harvest up to three times a week. There are many different tray batches (tasks), many different task types (soak, sow, blackout, under lights, etc.), and a few destinations/delivery routes (custom label field). On the Gantt, there are hundreds of tasks at a time for each batch of trays, and it would be really nice to only see, say, broccoli trays, but when I use the search bar to filter for a crop name that's noted in the task name, I only see tasks, not subtasks. It's SO frustrating. Gantt view would be so much more helpful if the filters and search worked correctly!

This feature would help our ressources to look up their tasks and align against team capacitiels planning immediately. Workaround is the list view but not as convenient as a Gantt view. Vote up!

This needs to happen. I use different task types for subtasks and need to be able to see specific tasks types without the parent or other subtasks, but currently this isn't possible which makes strategic planning more cumbersome.

Is key for our team to only filter milestones on Gantt. This will help us focus on the most important tasks for the business. only to filter milestones on Gantt
