Automation to change task name
Jordan Macintyre
It would be great to have the ability to change task names through automation. When someone submits a form, it would be ideal to have the task name change to a relevant field submission from the form or similar.

I also have tasks that have [Client] at the start and then each sub-task is [Client] with the subtask. It would save me a lot of time if this could be updated automatically across all subtasks as I currently have to do this manually.
We need the [Client] at the start of all tasks & subtasks in order to easily see who the work is for when looking at notifications (inbox and email) and on the home page. Labels don't work for this and you also can't seem to select all subtasks and assign a label in one go.

I have repeated tasks and subtasks for every day and I have to manually name them according to the date. It would be great if this could be done automatically.

In terms of Automation with changing task names, what I'd be looking for is when we setup a recurring task, and having {tokens} swapped out for meaningful name. For example, a task name of Server Administration {yyyy}-{mm} would become Server Administraton 2024-07, Server Administration 2024-08, etc. If you had automated weekly tasks, you could expand to include either the starting day of the task {yyyy-mm-dd} or year and Week # {yyyy-Week #ww}. At the end of a period ( month, or quarter ) when doing executive reviews, have 5-10 tasks all named the same, LOOKs like a problem.

The most ideal thing about this feature would be that we can have the possibility of defining parts of the name as variables or fixed names according to our choice.
An example is through the organizational process we use here, before the name of any task or subtask, we put the customer's name in square brackets, for example:
[Client] Deliver images of the promotional action
[Disney] Make the Mickey Mouse banner
[Tesla] Deliver the car tire
The possibility of having automation that allows the following logic:
For any task or subtask created, have the permission to choose where the information will be assigned in the name, and be able to define the default customer name at the beginning, for example, or in any part of the name.
For every task/subtask created > put [Disney] at the beginning of the name.
This makes it easier to visualize in task monitoring and also subtask which client is referring to that task without having to identify it through a parent task or read the directory hierarchy of that task to identify who it belongs to, giving more agility to carry out the task.

When will this feature be implemented? 6 months have passed, the platform has only had visual updates, no new features have been implemented!

Nicolas Espinosa 6 months!, I have known about the limitation for about 3 years now. Here is a video with a work around. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7z6bjxmVAvE

This is a significant limitation that they are not addressing. It is frustrating to ask ClickUp for help multiple times, only to be told that this is a feature request. But the thing that makes me mad is that they will give me a differt post to vote on.
Let me get this straight the only way to automatically name a task is for the process to generate a random name when filling out a form. The other way is typing in by hand manually. That is it. And it's very limiting because the task name happens to be very important and you can't automatically change it.
Please stop telling me to vote for things that you’re not going to take seriously. You know this is a problem, so please combine the issues into one and address the problem.

Steve Chappell I'm also tired of support always sending people to vote on features that are never attributed to Rodamap, it seems that the platform only created this to give a false impression about the "updates" they make that are just visual changes.

This would super important. Specially as mail object for the notification only inclue the Task Name. It means that you have to click the mail and look at it to see in which list is the Task (we use List / Folder as customer). So having the possiblity to update the task name directly with automation would be amazing.
Example:
Task Name Blablabla
Would become:
Task Name Blablabla - List Name (or tag, or Custom Field, etc.)

Would love the ability for this. Surprised it doesn't exist actually. We use forms to collect data from employees for certain requests. We use drop downs and labels to standardize the entry of data. Having to place the "task name" field on the form ends up forcing the user to enter redundant information into that field. I really want to use an automation to do exactly what Kate mentioned. Use custom fields (customer data) + date of creation to create a task name.
