Automate Reminders - related to task Start / Due date

Arjen Mulder
I'd like to be able to set up an automation where Reminder is created x days / hours before and after Start / Due date of a task. That would seriously save me a lot of time!
Automation should include all Reminder options of delegating etc.
I am really struggling to set up a repetitive workflow for recurring Reminders related to a tasks Start / Due date. Would be so great to have a 'days / hours before / after trigger'.

I would LOVE to have reminders be automated and even be able to be sent out as an email. I want to use this feature on very high priority tasks only. It would be amazing if reminders could be built into template tasks as well!

Would be really convenient to have this be a native feature using the date-picker UI inside of tasks or something
Maybe they can show up in Inbox with a certain icon indicating that it's a reminder

I would like to be able to create a reminder that is related to start/due date so that as those dates change the reminder does not need to be updated. Must be by automation, or in a template.
Use case is construction: “remind me 5 days before start date” so I can call the electrician and make sure they are on schedule, ensure materials ordered, etc. On site superintendent updates the Gantt so I [project manager] want to be reminded only before start dates/due dates.
I realize this could be a separate task but I don’t want to double/triple # of tasks in each project.

The current automation is very limited in that the trigger can only be:
when Start Date Arrives/Changes
when Due Date Arrives/Changes,
when Custom Field Changes.
So even if you create a Custom "Reminder" Date field, you cannot use it to trigger the automation when it Arrives. The first thing we need is a Trigger for When Custom Field Arrives to take into account custom fields that are in date format.
What if we skip custom fields? Even just using start/due dates we still have a problem because when setting dates via automation, you can either use
Trigger Date
x number of days after the Trigger
or Field from Trigger (ie another date field).
We need options to set dates (due date/start date/custom date) to
x number of Days BEFORE Field from Trigger
x number of Days AFTER Field from Trigger
This would enable us to automatically set dates to automate reminders and followup tasks.
For example, On the first of the month, I manually create an event with a start date of the 15th. I want an automation to set the due date (or a custom field) to the 14th for my prep reminder.
If I can only set dates based on
the 1st (trigger when start date changes, which is too early)
x number of days after the 1st (not helpful since lead time is not always exactly the same)
or the 15th (when start date arrives, which is too late)
I can never set the reminder for when I want it...

Great idea!

support automated reminders. A start date works but then the calendar is overflowing and therefore isn't very useful

I know this is an older post, but I am with you! This would be a great help for me as well.

I want to create a reminder from a task that is separate from its Due Date. Currently you can either create a reminder from a comment or set a due date. But watchers of the task cannot create reminders just for the task for their own purposes.

I'm trying to create an automation where a reminder is created when I move a task to a particular status.
