Ability to export a List and then re-upload into that same List with updated data (bulk update tasks by import)
Kirk Mullis
It would be very helpful to be able to export project data and edit the data in a spreadsheet then import the csv to update the existing project data.

Update tasks via import

Currently, Clickup only has the ability to import new tasks. Please create the ability to update and change custom fields on current tasks via import.

Import Changes to Fields
Kamryn Wies
I would like to be able to create a List view, download that list view, change fields and either import in mass changes to specific fields on specific tasks OR mass copy and paste into the fields in the List view (ie copy data from a column on a spreadsheet into a List view).

Any update on this? We had a client that updated a field in thousands of records on their side that we need to map to our information. Which currently would require us to go through and check and change each individual task one by one. Is there any way to use the Task ID to update existing records?

Hi ClickUp Team, I’m reaching out to express serious concern and confusion regarding the inability to bulk import data to update custom fields (like email addresses) without duplicating tasks/accounts in my workspace.
Let me be direct: this is a basic, essential CRM function—standard in nearly every project management and sales enablement tool on the market. The expectation is simple: if I import a file with a unique identifier that already exists in my task list, ClickUp should update the corresponding fields—not create duplicates.
Instead, I was directed to use an external tool like Zapier to compensate for a feature that should be native. That’s both inefficient and unacceptable. Why should I pay for additional tools to do what any intuitive system should handle internally?
I have personally spent days cleaning up the mess created by ClickUp’s failure to properly match tasks by a unique identifier. I attempted a mass update to correct and fill in missing emails—only to find hundreds of duplicate entries created. That forced me to manually scrub the database, cross-reference IDs, and delete redundant records. The result? Lost time, lost productivity, and growing distrust in the reliability of this platform.
Here’s what I need to know:
Why is the ability to update existing tasks via import using a unique field not available?
If this feature does exist, why isn’t it clearly documented or enabled for paid users like myself?
If it truly does not exist, how is ClickUp positioning itself as a scalable solution when it can’t support basic data hygiene at scale?
Please also remove the canned response I received from your AI assistant (“the Brain”), which falsely implies this is possible through import settings. If I have to update 1,000+ tasks manually because the system doesn’t support matching by Account ID or another custom field, it defeats the very reason I chose ClickUp.
At this point, I’m seriously considering canceling my subscription and switching to a platform that values both user efficiency and data integrity. Unless there’s a workable resolution to this issue, I will have to request a refund and transition to a tool that can support my business without wasting my time.
I’m open to hearing your solution. But I need a real answer—not a workaround, not a redirect to Zapier, and not a scripted article.
Thanks,
Janette Rosales

Support for Export csv to Import csv for bulk edits
Garin Strader
This is sort of two topics in one. The specific feature request, I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be any posts about. The general request doesn't quite have a post, but is scattered across several posts.
Specifically: Exporting a backup CSV, and immediately trying to import that same data fails miserably. The import fails to recognize most of the exported fields, notably space, list, and project names which are extremely important (among others). It should just recognize immediately that it's a clickup export and import everything out of the box. Seriously, one click to export, 3 clicks to import... should be all it takes. Either that or find some way to add comprehensive source control and versioning.
Generally: why aren't backups FULL backups? Including docs, attachments, embeds, other views, etc. I should be able to entirely delete an account and restore everything in a new account with ease (of course, attachments could be large, so there should be an option to ignore them). Not only this, but we should be able to backup only a workspace, only a space, only a folder, etc.
I'm hesitant to put any amount of important data into clickup knowing that if for any reason someone screws something up or something causes data loss, there's no good way to ensure I'm able to restore all of it.

A Shame: ClickUp can't seamlessly export/import it's own exported CSV File

We can't believe that ClickUp has less useful Support for its own paying Customers than for other Platforms Users: you do not allow us to export a ClickUp Space and seamlessly import it back into another ClickUp Workspace?
Of course, we can export/import csv Files,
but then we have a lot of manual work - and we're losing information.
Because it is for sure easier to seamlessly export/import a ClickUp Space than to integrate other platforms, it would be great if you could better support your own customers here.
Hmmm, a workaround comes to my mind:
Export the ClickUp data to asana - and then import it back from asana into ClickUp. But then, it could happen that we like asana... :-)

Hi, this request may be scattered across several places because there is no category for it in the dropdown list when requesting features. It is an obvious one. The current download feature is not a backup in any true sense. If you try to restore it you'll discover it doesn't really work and it doesn't include all the comments, attachments, etc. It may be OK to demonstrate a list of items but it is not even close to a true backup.
We've been reduced to duplicating the entire space and then modifying the permissions to lock it down. This "works" but is very manual and requires someone to remember to do it which is risky. We love clickup and the more central it is to our processes the less acceptable it is not to have a robust backup and rollback system available (the deleted folder isn't enough).
