Hey all! Changing the name of this ask to be "Comments" but if you also would like the ability to "Mention", please vote here: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/notifications-for-mentions-in-whiteboard
Mentions will allow you to tag a user within an item (like a sticky note) and send them a notification to let them know they were mentioned on a whiteboard.
Thanks

Updating this post to Open for now.
We're trying to do a better job of keeping the statuses on feature requests up-to-date so you can more realistically know what ClickUp is working on.
I'll let you all know if we have more questions, but please feel free to add any additional context to this post that you think I should be aware of.
The more I can understand how critical this is for your use case, the better!
Thank you 🙇♂️

Whiteboard's toolbox would be very useful for correcting PDFs, due to its clarity (underline, strike through, draw).

Commenting on a specific string in the description of a task is something we're terribly missing moving from Notion

Would also like the ability to "like" an object or stickie--so we can vote on ideas during brainstorming.

Starr Marea Johnson: Love this idea! It's in our backlog.

Yes, this would be amazing! We review the technical drawings we create with customers and mark them up as the customer provides feedback.
Right now, attaching a PDF to a task is the best way to go because we can tag a specific location on the drawing with a comment of what to change, and it automatically becomes a checklist in the task.
If we could have that functionality in the Whiteboard it would be even better! We could use the drawing tools from the whiteboard to make much more descriptive redlines on our drawings.

Ben Porter: Thanks for sharing your workflow, that helps a lot as we think through this feature!

GREAT, Whiteboards is out of beta and is almost usable for simple things! But, we still cannot cancel Miro, as commenting on objects is crucial.
E. g., if we're doing page planning and design for brochures, or storyboards for videos, we put all drafts as screenshots/images to Miroboard to get an overview. Then our collaborators and clients (guests) can comment. Also moving or scaling objects keep these comments at it's precise place on this objects. Also it should be possible to view or hide comments, depending, if they're active, or solved.
As ClickUp ist task related, it should be possible to connect some of this comments to a new or existing tasks, BUT as long as these comments are just for going forward with creative or conceptional processes, they mustn't be connected to a specific task.
Btw. this Whiteboard commenting could be a good way to onboard these clients to ClickUp, what they so fare often refuse for regular project purposes, what forces us to still keep 99 % of our client communication on email.

Harald Vogl: Great insight, thank you! Comments is absolutely on our roadmap and I'll be sure to update here when we begin working on it.

Zach - ClickUp: Thx for your feedback.

This will be a huge engineering effort, but it's one I very much want to do as well! Candidly, the earliest this will start to be worked on would be in May. Stay tuned!

Zach - ClickUp: I'd recommend a new comment UI while you're at it. The popup comment UI for docs is poor as it requires scrolling.

Brendon McCarthy: We'll consider it! I will need to think through the trade-off of shipping it faster without updating the UI of that component or spend more time but update UI. Thanks for the feedback!

Zach - ClickUp: Of course...maybe this could be the impetus to re-design, starting with Whiteboards and rolling it out for Docs later. Ah, the joys of managing the technical debt vs. shipping faster vs. user experience ;)

Brendon McCarthy: You read my mind 😉
