Use Date Custom Fields in Calendar View

I would like to be able to create date ranges based on custom dates so that I can build calendar views that are not based on start/due date fields.
My use case is that I'd like a calendar view showing when campaigns are LIVE, so we can easily see them, see what campaigns overlap, etc.
Right now, you can create this view, but only based on start/due date fields, but these dates are not always the "campaign live dates", they are changing due dates based on the stage that the project is at. Aka start date = when work started on the project, and due date = when everything (including post live tasks) conclude, not the actual dates of the campaign.

Planned. The campaign-live-dates case is exactly what this is for. Calendar is getting a Date Source setting: pick which date field starts the bar and which ends it, so a view can show when campaigns are actually live rather than when prep work started and wrap-up finished.
Your Start and Due dates keep doing their job for task management underneath. This just decides what the calendar draws. You'll also be able to spin up the date field from the picker itself instead of going to list settings first, and you can drag the bars to update those fields directly.

Vasil Enchev What about the ability to do both on the same calendar?
So we can show Tasks by default Start and Due Date AND Custom Start and Due Dates?
Of course, helping the latter would be to be able to link two Custom Field dates so the Custom Due Date "knows" the relative Custom Start Date.

This really should be a feature. Being forced to use the TASKS start/due date is super limiting and adds additional noise to the calendar when stacking multiple tasks/tags or the like into one view.
Allowing custom date fields to be displayed gives the user the ability to show a publishing view of the work being done, without exposing the working timelines. This is critical for sharing information on campaigns with stakeholders (internal and external) via the calendar.

"A publishing view without exposing the working timelines" is better phrasing than what's in our own brief, so I'm stealing it 😄 That's exactly what this is meant to do once it ships: Start and Due keep running the work underneath, while the view shows the dates your stakeholders care about.
Are those stakeholders mostly external? Wondering if this should eventually pair with public sharing.

The requirement to use custom date fields in the calendar view is really practical, especially for tracking campaigns and migration strategies at tap road making it easy to identify important time periods and overlapping campaigns!
