Use any (standard/custom) field in formulas (not just number and date fields)

It appears it is only possible to reference numeric or date fields in formulas. I would love to be able to do something like if(field("Status") == "Urgent",2,1) in a formula field. Is that not possible?

Hi all - we're starting to scope this work, and will be starting with supporting text/string-based variables/fields in Formulas, including Dropdowns, Status, etc. Stay tuned for more here!

Since this is already planned, it would be amazing if we can utilize the relationship count in the formula.
Example: I have a list for "servers" and a list for "sites". I need to be able to use the relationship to get a count of the number of sites on each server.
While we already have the relationship and can display the "count" I have to add a second number field and manually update the "sites on server" count in order to utilize the count in a formula.
So we have 2 fields that say the same thing just to be able to use the site count in the formula.
Simple formula: field("sites allowed") - field("sites on server")
If formula: if(field("sites on server") > field("sites allowed"), FALSE, TRUE)

So glad to see this is Planned! We desperately need formulas that use other fields - especially Rollups, checkboxes (if checked, then assign a # value), dropdowns (if option A, then assign a # value), and tags (each tag gets assigned a # value and all tags added together)

Caroline Ginty looking forward to this! I’ve been wanting to set priority state depending on the formula result of two rating fields…

Caroline Ginty, not sure if you'd consider this in scope, but it would be most excellent to be able to reference variables/fields from lists to which a task belongs (e.g. to fetch the start or end date of a sprint) as well as from
related
tasks. The latter would be a very powerful addition that would bring calculated fields closer to what's possible with databases in Notion.Steve Aylward
Caroline Ginty would you know roughly how long something like this would take? 1 week, 1 month, 1 year? Sorry to ask but we are desperate for this!
Caroline Ginty
Steve Aylward What specifically are you looking for, variable-wise? We're working on strings/text now, but to do everything in the scope of this feature request will be a larger effort. Thanks!

Caroline Ginty specifically IF a specific value is selected in a dropdown

This would be AMAZING! We would love to be able to use the task name in a formula field to calculate custom field values, add tags or assign users.

This field would be a game changer for so many aspects :
CRM : having a custom field for first name and surname and bringing them to the task name as concatenate.
REFERENCES : being able to create reference file code such as Concatenate (year of the created task date, "/", departement name, "/", task ID or incremental numbers) and so much more.
If you need any feedback or testing feel free to reach out.

I also need this feature. We want to do a similar mapping to the ones described in this thread. At the moment we are having to handle in Google Sheets
Simon Schilling
How can this be not implemented? There is no use for the string functions at all without this. Event the example in the documentation is completely made-up:
Use the CONCATENATE function to add a percent sign.

Soooo.. Any News?

My team needs the ability to concatenate a date field with text from another field for quick status updates. Please release limits on the concatenate function!!
