We tried to create an agent to do this for us and it 'works', but has to trigger on every status change across our entire workspace. It's just not a reasonable solution. We moved from another project management software that could do this and were surprised that ClickUp couldn't support this with its automations or a ClickApp after we moved.
Please consider adding this.

Synchronize status of task with child tasks.

Zachary LeFevre
I frequently use a task as nothing more than a collection of subtasks. e.g.:
Book 1: (in progress)
chapter 1: (done)
chapter 2: (in progress)
chapter 3: (open)
I would like for the parent task status to synchronize with either the highest or lowest progression status of its child tasks. In the above case, I would like 'Book 1' to have a status of 'open'

Auto-Update Parent Task Status Based on Subtask Status
Suhaab
Automation options to update a parent task’s status based on the status of its subtasks.
- When all subtasks with a specific status are completed → update parent task status.
- When any subtask enters a specific status → update parent task status.

Parent Task Status should inherit Subtask Status

EG. you have a Main Task (Epic) with 4 sub tasks. If the main task is in backlog but a subtask moves to in progress - the main task should automatically be moved to in progress status also.

I would also love this, I am updating so many parents manually which seems entirely unnecessary

It's crazy that there's no way to make this work with automations or even just a built in toggle. Such a logical thing - when a subtask is in progress, it's parent task is also in progress.
