Unlock AI Custom Fields to Use Relationship and Rollup Field Values (Not Just Task IDs)
Mateus Fioda
Today, AI Custom Fields are unable to properly leverage data from Relationship and Rollup fields. This severely limits their automation potential and forces data duplication across lists.
Use Case Example:
I have a Relationship field called "Client Name" that links to a separate Client database. I want to create an AI Custom Field called "Character Count" that calculates the number of characters in the client's name. However, the AI field only receives the task ID from the Relationship, not the actual name value. So instead of counting the characters in "ACME Corporation", it counts the characters in something like "6trd14h1".
Similarly, Rollup fields that bring in values like "Birthday" from the related task cannot be used as dynamic variables in AI prompts, which defeats the purpose of separating data into modular, reusable structures.
❗ What We Need:
Let AI Custom Fields access the actual value of Relationship and Rollup fields (not just task IDs).
Allow Rollups to be used as variables in AI prompts — optionally choosing whether to use task ID or the actual field content.
✅ Benefits:
Prevents unnecessary data duplication across lists.
Promotes better database hygiene and modularity.
