"Today" should be relative, not fixed to the date that the automation was edited

Jordan Randolph
Allow users to choose how they would like "today" to be used. Automations should be able to check against due dates each day by using the "today" option. If we wanted to set a fixed date for "today" we can already set that.

PLEASE NO NEW FEATURES UNTIL THIS WORKS SENSIBLY. It is utterly useless to have a "today" or "tomorrow" option that is FIXED ON THE DATE.
This request is nearly five years old. (or, to put it in ClickUp automations terms, it was created "TODAY" but five years ago.) 🫠
Is it even on the roadmap?

Automation should work with relative dates

Luis Ramirez
I tried creating an automation that set a Date field to "Today" on the date when the status changed to some specific status.
My intention is to automatically record the date that the task moved into that status.
Unfortunately "Today" translates to the date the automation was created, not the date it's executed, so all tasks end up with the same date instead of recording the date the task moved.
Seems to me that it would be far more logical for "Today" (or whatever relative date) on an automation to be relative to the date the automation runs. If I wanted to set the date the automation was created, I could just hardcode that value.
Thanks!

Absolutely. I ended up creating a feature request not realizing this one existing. Just pasting my thoughts here as well! I hope to see this soon..
An enhancement for automation options within ClickUp, particularly related to Due Date or Start Date changes.
For example, I have an automation where a "PLANNED" task changes to "ACTION" when the start date arrives. If I decide to adjust the Start Date and it becomes greater than "Today," the status should update back to "PLANNED." An option for "Today" should dynamically adjust based on the current date, unlike the current fixed date that applies. This automation only works the day it's created and won't work in the future.
This functionality would ensure automations work as intended over time, greatly streamlining task management and improving workflow efficiency.
Thank you for considering this feature request!

I don't believe this has been addressed has it? I've been trying to create an automation for scheduled trips so when start date arrives -- change task status to "in progress" -- this works. However, sometimes a co-worker will be nearby a specific location and bumps the scheduled trip up and when we go to change the start date to "today or yesterday" because the person is already traveling there, we cannot capture this with an automation. We want it to be relative so IF start date is less than or equal to today THEN change task to in progress, However, "today" seems to be defined as a fixed date and not a variable making this automation useless.

This is so important. Why would I create an automation that sets a new task start/end date to "Today" when that "Today" will always be the date that I created the automation? I have an outlook rule that forwards a specific email to Clickup to create a task and I would like the automation for this list to set the start and due date to the day the task is created but with the current system if I use automation when new task is created set the start/end date to today it just sets it to the date I created the automation instead of the day the task got created.

I hope this will see resolution in the next month or so

Set dates (relative to current automation call) to custom date field from Automations
V
Veniamin
Set date (today, tommorow etc )
to custom field
RELATIVE to current AUTOMATION CALL!
Now we can create automation and set date like "today" "tommorow" in it.
But it will be relative to Automation CREATING, but not Automation CALL.
And so this automation is no longer relevant for the next day.
P.s. it should work like "Remapping Dates in Templates" but with custom date fields and via automation

Change Due date action should use Today as a relative/dynamic value

When I set a rule to set the Due Today to 'Today' or 'Tomorrow', I expect it to be the 'today' of the day this action was triggered, and not the 'today' as the day I created the Automation on.
My use-case as this:
ClickUp uses Today due date in the home page/mobile app/widget as a way to organize tasks
and I use a Today/Tomorrow/Next 2 weeks Lists/Columns to organize my tasks.
I setup an automation that when Status was changed to 'Today', the due date is changed to Today.
My expectation of this automation is that the due Date will be the relative to the date the task received the Status.
But the today, as explained above, is the Today the trigger was created on...
hopefully this can improved.
