Task Relationships
complete
Problem: The complexity of our work is amplified by the kind of work we're doing and how many people we collaborate with. Keeping track of relational work is impossible in current productivity tools unless they are hosted in the same location, i.e. a list or project.
Solution: Bridging the gap between tasks that are related, even they exist in completely unique environments. Task Relationships will allow you to connect tasks, no matter where they are located within your ClickUp Team.

Thanks for implementing relationships. Unfortunately, this implementation is a bit counter productive to me. I'm trying to replicate the functionality in AirTable but it's not working. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Setup: Relation to a secondary list within the same folder.
Expected Functionality: Within the related field, when I type a pre-existing task from the secondary list, it shows up. If it doesn't exist, I can create it on the fly. I.e. 1 to many relationship. 1 Recipe can have many ingredients. All this is accomplished without having to use the mouse.
Actual Functionality: Typing within the field shows existing tasks within the secondary list. If a task doesn't exist, I need to go to the secondary list to create the task. A lot of back and forth mouse clicking which ends up being counter productive.
Additional Notes: Within table view, some of the 'task names' within the related field records get cut off. Sometimes I can barely see the 'add field' button.
Also noticed that when I enter data in table view, then go to list view and then back to table view, all the data disappears.
Am I doing something wrong?

Last one: filtering Views based on dependencies is not currently possible.

Extra functionality to implement: adding related tasks in one click.
Right now we have to create the new task, then click to add relationship, then click to choose relationship type, then search for the task by name. Imagine if you could "Create linked task" or "Create blocking task" with one click.
This is requested here, go upvote if you like it! https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/add-task-from-dependency-popup

Clickup team, loving the update. A couple of remaining UI niggles to fix up:
- Can dependencies be grouped by relationship type in the list? Right now Blocking and Waiting On tasks are mixed up. Waiting On should be on top.
- When task names are long enough that they extend to a second line, begin the second line with the same indentation as the first line. See image for an example. Right now the task name text runs below the dependency type, making the list harder to read.
- Give the names of Blocking tasks the same indentation indentation as Waiting on Tasks. In other words, increase the margin-right of class="cu-task-relationships-table-tasks-dependencies__dependency ng-star-inserted" from 8px to 18px.
- I love that you've added the task status to the list (I'd requested that here, you can close it now! https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/show-status-preview-of-linkeddependentblocking-tasks). One thing to improve: could you display the status name on hover over the status icon? That'd help when I'm looking at someone else's project and I don't know their status colours off by heart.
- In List View (and possibly other views), there's an icon which on hover tells you a task "Has Relationship Links". There's an inconsistency here, because that's only referring to a task having linked tasks and/or backlinks, but "relationships" refers to dependencies and integrations as well. Blockers and dependencies have their own icons, so shouldn't that "Has Relationship Links" text be renamed to something like "Has Linked Tasks"?
I've made this request on this thread dedicated to further improving relationships functionality as well: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/relationship-recommendations

We've tested the beta relationship app, and while we love the additional features (like the back-link) and the ability to set-up more refined and complex relationship, we switched back because we missed having the key integrations (like Github) and dependencies clearly visible at the top of the task, and we didn't like that it pushed sub-tasks further down the screen.
Maybe those relationship fields could just be added below the sub-task and we could keep some key relationship information at the top of the task ?

Unfortunately there is one major thing missing.
When creating a relationship based on a task this does not automatically create a backlink when the relationship is linked to the workspace, making the relationship less useful. I would love to create a field like "Milestone" and see what tasks are linked to this Milestone via the created relationship.
and being able to search for tasks with this link.

I have just tested this :
I have a task list + locations list
task list -> one to many -> locations
I can now edit a task and add multiple locations from my related locations list.
I can now show rollup field in the task detail from my locations list.
However, I cannot show a rollup field from my locations list in the parent task list, f.ex to show the location-type field address, so that I can use this location field in a map view ?

When can I use the map view field in relationship with another task list ? When will the map view show all items on the same address, and not only 1 like it is right now ? Please !!!

I'm a bit lost how to utilize this feature and e.g. the rollup feature. I guess I was more expecting something like lookup fields.
Can anyone share their use cases to learn from?

Waleed Elaghil: hey team, this is great! I love that you can add these relationships on List view too. Will there be an option to add Integration relationships too such as Zendesk link?
Michael
Waleed Elaghil, where should we give input regarding relationships?
J
John Jones
Michael: Yes so much feedback is sure to come, would like to know was well!
Michael
John Jones, I created this: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/relationship-recommendations - Waleed Elaghil - please do what is needed here if there is a better place for recommendations.

Michael: Thanks Michael. I have a specific request, Rollup of a Rollup, that I also created and will link to that!

Waleed Elaghil: Seems awesome, flexible and promising but I think we need a webinar on this specific feature.

Waleed Elaghil: I'm actually very confused now what this feature can do for me, how it differs from dependencies. A video pls on this!
Waleed Elaghil
Hey Michael! The best way to do that is to create separate feature requests as this makes it easier for us to manage, prioritize and gather votes.
I've already found that you created another post for "Relationship feedback". Those are great ones 🙂.
I'll close that request and create separate ones for each!
Ruud
Super excited to test it! https://docs.clickup.com/en/articles/4714522-relationships-clickapp-beta
