Task ID Customization
Zachary Thomas
I would like ClickUp to support fully customizable Task ID formats, including dynamic components such as date, auto-increment counters, and text patterns.
Example desired format:
HELPDESK-DDMMYYYY-0001
(e.g., HELPDESK-08122025-0001)
Why this matters:
Makes IDs more readable for non-technical staff
Allows easier tracking of tickets by date without opening the task
Helps support teams use human-friendly IDs similar to Jira, Zendesk, etc.
Reduces confusion and improves workflow transparency
Allows multiple departments to have distinct ID structures
Enables internal SOPs that depend on predictable ID formats
Requested Capabilities:
Ability to insert dynamic values into Task ID (date, time, list name, creator, etc.)
Ability to reset counters daily/weekly/monthly
Ability to include custom text blocks
Ability to format numbers with leading zeros
Ability to apply different ID formats by Space / Folder / List
This would bring ClickUp’s ID system in line with modern helpdesk and DevOps platforms while keeping IDs meaningful, standardized, and much more intuitive for end users.

Add more customisation to 'Custom Task ID's'

The Custom Task IDs ClickApp is very restrictive. It would be useful to be able to define custom formats and values obtained from variables. For example:
ww = ISO Week number (01 to 53)
mm = Numerical month (01-12)
yy = Numerical year
nnn = Sequential number (001 to 999)
NNN= Sequential number starting from zero (000-999)
and so on...
