Sort by Custom Field in Gantt View

You aren't currently able to sort by Custom Fields in Gantt View, and I would like for that to change.
It would be nice if we could sort by the Custom Fields we've made in Gantt View.

🚀 Custom Fields are now available in the Gantt!
You can now use your own data in the Gantt View. Learn more here.
Here's an overview of what to expect:
- Custom Fields as Table Columns: Add custom fields using our fields sidebar.
- Color Task Bars: Use dropdown or multi-select fields to color-code tasks.
- Sort & Filter by Custom Fields: Easily organize and focus on what matters most.
We’d love to hear your thoughts—try it out and share feedback directly on this post. Your input helps shape what’s next. 🙏

Need this asap, I have added a step order field that has everything numbered in order (+100 steps in a process). Easy to sort on the lists and boards this way, but nothing in the Gannt view. Now my gantt view looks like hot garbage

Better sorting in Gantt view
Matt Koltermann
I really want to use the Gantt view, but every time I try it seems more fiddly than it should be. For example, I can't figure out how to display my subtasks in exactly the same order the appear on the task. Even after I add dependencies between all the subtasks so there's a clear order to them, the chart looks like a mess.
There are also many situations where different tasks can have the same subtask titles, and when that happens it's impossible to distinguish subtasks from each other because they all have the same title—it's not clear what the parent task is (this applies to calendar view, too).
So, better sorting would include (1) being able to display subtasks in the same order they appear on the task, and (2) some indicator on the subtasks of which parent task it belongs to.
Thanks!

This is a necessity. The left side of a Gantt view should have all the same functionality of a List view (add all column types including custom fields, group-by, me mode, show closed, etc.). Doesn't make sense its two separate layouts and controls.

Agreed this needs some work. Additionally, it is missing "multiple sort" functionality as is available in list view.
It would also be useful to have "group by" or "swim lanes" here, but if not possible we can get around that with multi sort ([Status ↑, Due Date ↓, ...])

Adding a vote for this! Definitely a feature that is needed.

It is really annoying that you can't group by custom fields in a Gantt view. I have tasks grouped by phases of the project and I want to show the Gantt view by those phases. It make the Gantt view almost meaningless without it. This suggestion was opened 4 years ago and has a lot of interest. Any chance this can get added to the roadmap?

I would like to be able to hide lists in gantt, and sort all tasks of all lists based on the task start date, or at least have lists sorted according to the start date of the tasks included.

My tasks and subtasks in gantt view even not ordered by there start or due date, yes it's more like a random order. I agree the gantt view is buggy.
