Just note, apparently we can set 'Today's date in the app via a custom field or advanced syntax when creating a Date type field (ie "TODAY()" or "TODAY" both seem to be valid) that I have to create first and set it by selecting 'Today' from calendar pop-up once i've included the field in my list as a column (I appear to also be able to create automation to auto set it's value on all items moved into this list, however it is not applicable to the list items already in the list ??). However, I noticed that 'today' is also static? It is supposed to be always reflecting 'today' ie current date, but it isn't it. It's stuck on the 'today' date when I set it.

The reason I am finding all of this out is that I have to come up with a workaround to automatically clear the list of items that are stale via the combination of a function field (not fully functional because it's not a 'trigger' on automations) and a custom 'Today's Date' field (which should always be the 'today'), but it's a stretch, very cumbersome, still not functional and requires mad creativity skills, because:

1) as pointed out the 'Today' is static,ie it remains on the date when I set the date to today (if I set the value yesterday on all items in my list to today, and it was March 27th, then the next day I look at it, the date will still be March 27th, and not 'today, the 28th). So this is not actually working... :(

2) the 'function' field type is not included as of today into the automations 'triggers' list. It seems like it's pretty close per this page: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/add-formula-fields-in-automations (meaning I read "under review", but I am not sure if "review" here is in terms of the feature request from user and reviewed by PM to be included into development OR review of the already coded functionality before its merge to production for all of us to use :)).

So, my very creative way to create an automation to automatically clear the list of items that are stale (via use of the combo of the function field and the date field set to always be the 'today') is probably less than half way there. In addition to implementing this, I also need to notify the creator/owner of the task before the task is trashed or archived to take note and update it to the required boilerplate and present in the refinement meeting. Otherwise, at least they'll be ok and notified that it's been scratched.

My fit here is something so obvious should not be this complicated to conjure up in the first place; in my view it shouldn't require us to submit a ticket to have a way to set 'Today's date' somewhere on the app? It seems it should be inherent as so much of logic might depend on having a dynamic 'today' field available and an automation based on a result derived from a function field. I am really looking forward to these being prioritized! Thank You!
