Select AI Model
planned
Ben Valentin
I want the ability to select different AI models.
Right now, we don't even know which model is being used. But it's becoming very common in AI Chat tools to be able to select Claude, Gemini 2.0 Flash, OpenAI o4 vs OpenAI 4.1, etc.
It would be great to have more flexibility here.

I agree with this. It would be really great if we can also select an AI Model when we create an AI Agent.

Also, would it be possible for users to log in to, for example, their ChatGPT or Gemini accounts to have the user's history and data available when generating their requests as well as having the models available.
Just a thought! ; )

Alfonso De La Torre: Interesting! What's the primary motivation for this? E.g. is it to access your personalised version of ChatGPT in ClickUp?
Alfonso De La Torre
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp): Thats right Alex, the team would be able to quickly jump into their own version of ChatGPT/Gemini. As of today, the GPT-5 option in ClickUp Brain is not connected to the workspace anyways. This would also help the team to have ChatGPT/Gemini on the sidebar as they go through their tasks and docs.

Alfonso De La Torre understood, thanks a lot!

Please add an option to give access to a particular section in ClickUp to an external AI (like Claude or ChatGPT). My use case is the nested documentation, and it's supposed to be searchable and readable for AIs, so they could answer the users' questions and give links to particular docs. It means that I need to grant a recursive access to my Docs tree to an AI. For now, this mode is supported only by ClickUp Brain; it's much better than nothing, but expanding this functionality to other LLMs as well will be immensely welcome.
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp)
Fedor Ivashchenko: thanks! Sounds like you'd like to be able to give these other LLMs access to specific data in your workspace (as opposed to your entire workspace) — correct?

Alex Omeyer (ClickUp) this would be the best case scenario, but even giving access to a whole workspace will be much better than nothing. Now I achieve this via ClickUp API, an MCP server and an external LLM, so I solved the problem for myself. But if ClickUp had a built-in solution for this use case, it could save me time and effort. And I'm pretty sure that some users won't even guess how to do it with external tools.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!
What do you think a first iteration where you can use other LLMs in Ask AI but also manually embed assets in your prompts (e.g. using @ shortcuts or copy/pasting assets)?
You would not be able to use all of Brain's features (i.e. tool calling to perform search, create tasks, etc.).
Ben Valentin
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp) That would literally be perfect. I don't care too much about the Brain features for creating tasks or searches when I'm doing creative writing or brainstorming. As long as I can manually tag what I want then that's plenty!
Ben Valentin
Actually, I noticed a spot where I can change models - But it doesn’t let me tag or embed any assets. So I can’t add docs or tasks as context. So basically useless lol.

Ben Valentin: Yes we haven't built that piece yet! Looking at it though :)

Yes Ben Valentin i agree, it would be nice if you can change models from any AI menu.
It seems to be only able to set from the home screen. Not inside the messages and existing.
Hoping they consider this.

Vincent D'Amico: it'll be an option on the input field in Ask AI very soon! :)
WDYT of what you see in the screenshots?

Alex Omeyer (ClickUp) I like it, you have been doing a masterful job with the UI Design. Super impressive. I need to dwell on it a little more to see how to best leverage it.
I think your Clickup's Desktop UI design has been better than anything even produced by the actual companies building the other core products.
Cant wait to see the further integration with Docs.
One step at a time!
