Renaming Favorites without Renaming Original Item (alias) -- keep feature from 3.0 in 4.0
Lisa
So I received the forced update from 3.0 to 4.0 -- and all of my bookmarked "favorite" items have completely destroyed the system, I had to go back and rename everything as my favorite "nicknames" overrode the original names.
Now I realize in 4.0 you cannot rename a favorite without renaming the entire item for everyone. Can we please add this back from 3.0 into the new 4.0 version?
Not sure the category, as "favorites" is not listed, so hopefully sidebar puts me in the right place. Thanks!

Rename Alias for All Favorites (4.0)

This only applies to the 4.0 update, not an issue in 3.0. Right now it looks like you can only rename aliases for lists, docs, etc. in favorites that you did not create. Would like to be able to rename aliases for lists, docs, etc. that I did create since I am responsible for setting up lists for an entire team according to a template (longer name) and would like to have a shorter alias for just my favorites.

Hi Tori Scheidt - in 4.0, you can alias views (regardless of whether or not you created them). To do so, right click on the specific view on your list that you want to favorite, and you'll see an option to give it an alias (vs. if you favorite the list as a whole). Hope this helps!

Caroline Ginty thank you for the reply! It looks like there are still some issues with it? I don't see an option to create an alias for most of the items I have in my Top bar
Caroline Ginty
Tori Scheidt It's currently only supported for Views, not for other objects like Dashboards, Docs, etc that are not Views. We do have a separate feature request for this here though: https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/renaming-favorites-without-renaming-original-item-keep-feature-from-30-in-40

Hi Lisa - thanks for reporting! This was a bug that has now been fixed.
Kristine
Caroline Ginty - 1000% agreed with OP's post. And, for what it's worth, it seems that some item types allow you to rename the alias, while others do not even show the "rename alias" functionality upon right click. Hope this is a bug that will be fixed as well!
Lisa
Caroline Ginty Hello - you noted that this was fixed, but I still am unable to rename my favorites without renaming the sourced list. Is there something missing or is this still a known broken bug?
Lisa
Kristine oh thanks for sharing - I don't see "rename alias" at all! Curious what items you are seeing this option appear for? I have been trying to rename lists mainly, so I wonder if this is the issue I'm experiencing still.
Caroline Ginty
Lisa If you Favorite a view on a list (rather than the list itself), you'll be able to add/update the alias.
Lisa
Caroline Ginty AH thank you - the view not the list itself. thank you. Is there any documentation or resources that detail what items can/can not be favorited & renamed?
Kristine
Lisa For sure! The only favorite I've been able to rename is a calendar view. Lists, docs, and dashboards don't show the alias option (which is weird to me).
Lisa
Kristine It seems that maybe only VIEWS (not lists or docs themselves) can be renamed? Thanks for sharing the extra info, super helpful :)
Kristine
Lisa Thanks! Yeah, I noticed Caroline's response after replying to yours. I've also just now noticed that even if I rename the original source, it doesn't reflect the change wherever it's favorited... either in the sidebar or pinned to the top. (This was the case for a dashboard I'm trying to favorite.) Did a hard refresh; no dice.

Lisa Thanks for flagging! Working on getting this updated in our Help Center for 4.0.
