Remap Parent Task Dates based on Subtasks
beta
Zeb
From Josef:
Remapping subtasks from parent task due date is great. But we also need it the othe way: whenever a subtask is delayed and rescheduled then the parent task due date should be updated according to new due dates for subtasks.
Ideally the parent task due date could be auto-updated to max(due date for all subtasks) or due date for the last subtask in a chain of dependencies.

4/23 Update:
The public release is delayed for a bit more unfortunately :( We are now targeting a May release. Sincere apologies for the slipping dates. If you cannot wait to get your hands on the feature, please sign up for our beta release here and I'll enable it for you asap:

Bugra Oktay Hi Bugra, I hope you're good. I just have a question in relation to the rollup of subtask dates to the parent task feature request. i have gotten my client added to the Beta and I've been testing it out but it looks like the rollup is only happening at the first subtask level. Is this intentional for the Beta version and can we expect that when this goes live it will be rolling up for further subtask levels.

Jonathan Adeleye | Sharpflow Consulting: Hi there - if you have a task tree like this:
Parent
-Subtask
--Subsubtask
Turning subtask date sync for "Parent" should enable it for "Subtask" as well meaning date changes in "Subsubtask" would be reflected in both "Subtask" and "Parent"
Is that not what you are experiencing?
Jonathan Adeleye | Sharpflow Consulting
Bugra Oktay yes, that's exactly right

This is a very important function for all project management to ensure we are aware of all risks that could impact timelines. Please accept this as my vote for this function. It would be useful to learn when it can be expected or a tangible workaround. Thank you!

Bill Kambo: Thank you for the note. We are working on getting this out asap. Please sign up for beta if you haven't already to get it sooner.

Bugra Oktay, I have already registered but I've not received any confirmation from your beta programme. Is there something I should be looking out for?

Hi, was the feature finally implemented ?

Bugra Oktay
Adam Ostalski: Almost ready for a public release. Please sign up for beta if you haven't already to get it sooner.

Is this feature still active? Its not showing as an option when I click on the ellipsis of a parent task...
B
Bugra Oktay
Erik VM Hatfield: It is. Are you trying it on a gantt view?
E
Erik VM Hatfield
It came back today...
B
Bugra Oktay
Erik VM Hatfield: Interesting that it ever left but good to hear it's working now.

I've noticed ‘set parent task based on sub-tasks’ no longer operates permanently, but only on an as selected basis.
Once I switch views from Gantt and come back, it will no longer auto-adjust the parent field dates if I move the sub-tasks individually.
The feature seems to have lost the ability to permanently adjust the parent task based off of the sub-task dates.
One chosen, an icon shows up to the left of the parent task date, the gantt portion remains a block in appearance.
This used to be possible, and the bar would be skinnier and appear more a horizontal parenthesis.
Help? How can I adjust this?

Drue Phoenix: I assume you didn't leave the beta program, right? Do you mind sharing your workspace info with me to troubleshoot?

I know we were participating in the beta program, current status unknown.

Is this request related to the feature request below?
What we need is summary (parent) tasks to automatically update their start and end dates when subtask dates change. At the moment, this does not seem to work at all.
I’m not sure whether I’m already included in the beta for this functionality. Could you please confirm my beta status or let me know how I can get access?
B
Bugra Oktay
Kim Hoang (BF): sure thing, I need your workspace id or workspace name.

Bugra OktayThanks for asking. I have already submitted my workspace ID and Name using the form https://forms.clickup-stg.com/333/f/ad-2958357/2QYOC8ZQS23D1EWAFI

Hi Bugra Oktay
I have signed up for the Beta of this but no reply.
This thread is very long and hard to distinguish what features are being released
Is this just specifically applying to dates or is it being built into automations in general to allow triggers at Task level apply actions at a sub-task level (and vice versa)
Which would be more flexible as we can apply this across multiple different field types and not just dates?
B
Bugra Oktay
Rob Slowen: This feature is referring to the capability of parent tasks reflecting their subtasks' collective date range (i.e. becoming a summary task). Moving that parent task along the timeline also moves all of its subtasks in concert. So, it's specifically about dates.
H
Harry Luk
can we use a parent custom field, to change the specific subtask's due date?
B
Bugra Oktay
Harry Luk: That's not in the scope of this feature. It sounds like something you can do with automations but unsure. What's your use case?

Has anyone found a way to implement this across the entire list in beta? Its great it exists, but is frustrating to go through all 400 tasks we have to implement it
B
Bugra Oktay
Paul Holencik: We are working on that. You'll soon be able to do that for an entire list.
Natalie Williams
It's nice that this is coming, but why hasn't the issue with remapping subtasks based on parent tasks been fixed?
B
Bugra Oktay
Natalie Williams: What's the issue there?
Natalie Williams
Bugra Oktay it's 3 ongoing issues. When you remap, adjusting the start date, then the due date, the option to remap subtasks doesn't pop up. If you try to go to an earlier date, the same thing, no option to remap. And if your subtasks have start and due dates, and you remap the start dates aren't remapped. I can email a video demoing all the issues if that would help
B
Bugra Oktay
Natalie Williams: Two of them are by design. Remap subtask due dates only kicks in if you move the parent due date to a future date. It doesn't kick in if you move it to an earlier date or if you change the start date.
