Quick inline calculations on selected cells in Table/List view (Google Sheets-style selection stats)
Mostafa Shabanpour
In Google Sheets, when you select multiple cells containing numbers, the bottom-right corner instantly shows Sum, Average, Count, Min, and Max. This is one of the simplest yet most powerful features that makes spreadsheets feel fast and frictionless. ClickUp's Table view lacks this entirely.
The problem:
Currently, ClickUp only offers column-wide calculations at the bottom of the entire list. To see a sum or average, you must:
Scroll to the very bottom of the column.
The calculation applies to ALL tasks in the view (or per group, only in List view).
There is no way to select a subset of cells and instantly see their aggregate.
This forces users to either:
Mentally calculate values across a few selected tasks.
Export to Google Sheets just to do a quick sum.
Apply filters to isolate the tasks they care about, check the calculation, then remove the filters.
For teams that manage budgets, costs, media spend, or any numeric tracking, this missing capability pushes them back to Google Sheets constantly. It's one of the top reasons our organization struggles to adopt ClickUp over spreadsheets.
Proposed solution:
When a user selects multiple cells (or multiple tasks/rows) in Table or List view that contain numeric or money fields, display a floating calculation bar (bottom-right or bottom of screen) showing:
Sum of selected values
Average of selected values
Count of selected cells (non-empty)
Min and Max (optional, toggleable)
Behavior:
Works on any numeric field: Number, Money, Time Estimate, Sprint Points, Formula results.
Selection can be done by clicking + dragging across cells, or by selecting multiple task rows (checkboxes) and seeing aggregates for all numeric columns.
Updates in real-time as selection changes.
No need to scroll to the bottom of the list, the stats float in a visible position.
Optionally: allow users to choose which calculations appear (some may only want Sum).
Why this matters for ClickUp vs. Sheets adoption:
The #1 resistance we face when moving teams from Google Sheets to ClickUp is: "I can't quickly check numbers." People are used to selecting 5 cells and instantly seeing a total. In ClickUp, they have to scroll, filter, or export. This tiny UX gap creates a perception that ClickUp "can't handle numbers," and teams default back to spreadsheets for anything financial.
Adding this single feature would:
Remove one of the biggest friction points in Sheets-to-ClickUp migration.
Make Table view feel like a proper data tool, not just a task list.
Keep users inside ClickUp instead of exporting to Sheets for quick math.
Reduce the need for creating dashboards just to see simple aggregates.
