Quick-add tasks in filtered, sorted views

Put the "Create new task ..." feature to quickly add a new task that appears at the bottom of a list in the sorted/filtered view. The +New Task works, of course, but is much slower and more cumbersome.

Nick: Hey Nick, what I think myself and Jake Spirek are referring to is if you add a new task in a filtered view, say by tag or if a Custom Field is "set to value x", you'd expect the new task to pick up that tag or field by virtue of the sort. However, they "disappear" because they don't pick up the parameter of the sort.
So if I have sorted a list for tag "hot fix," and then I got to add a task in that list, I'd expect that tag to be added. But, the tag is not added, so the task will "Disappear" out of the sorted view.
It strikes me that this actual request, given that it's over 2 yrs old, is in reference to another function of just adding a task period. If what Jake and I are speaking of is a new feature, could you confirm and I'll post a new request? Would really love to get this as it helps out tremendously if you want to pre-build tasks with certain attributes, instead of having to add in tags and fields manually with each new task.
Thanks!
Jake Spirek
Nick: Zeb do we need a separate request for this? It's super frustrating when you're in a filtered view and go to create a new task, and the task you created just vanishes! Tasks need to inherit the custom field, tags, priorities, etc of the filtered view so they stay in view.
Jake Spirek
R C: if you post a new feature, comment in here and I'll vote for it :)

Nick: This post from Heather Gray was replied to by Zeb and said this was coming soon. But this definitely doesn't solve her request or R C or mine 😁. It's pretty bad UX the way it currently is, so I'd hate to see this ignored.

Jake Spirek: Jake, nice work on this! Here is another request that is what we are looking for too, I think:
Nick Krekow, could you guys consider merging these into one with a clear goal that Jake and I are looking for? We can then add votes there and keep tabs. Would really love to see this!

Jake Spirek R C Hey guys! So this is already the case if you are in a view where you are grouping by something (auto-filling whatever field it is grouped by). The problem with adding this same functionality to filtered lists is there are a lot of edge cases to handle. An example of this would be if you have a filter set to show tasks where field x is greater than y value, how do you decide which value to assign? With that said we are still open to solving this problem, it will just take some time 🙂The request that R C brought up looks like it is asking for what you guys want so we will keep an eye on that one! If you want to create a new request I'm also happy to merge that into it!

Nick: Hey Nick, appreciate you getting back to me and Jake Spirek with that detail!
What you say makes a lot of sense in fact. In particular with Custom Fields: If you are filtering with a "label" dropdown with multiple values, how do you know which of the multiple values would be the one that the task would pick up automatically? So understand the complexities for sure.
Perhaps you guys could look at the some situations where the filter is limiting to one choice, in which case I would imagine this would work without those complexities, since indeed the view then works just like the view where'd you'd group by say "tags." In fact, that is one way I get around this, but I would like to be able to do this in a Filtered view, in particular, the "Everything" view which I use with multiple filters to get cross-Space visibility. Incidentally, I believe you guys are working on Cross Space views as well, correct?
Thanks again for clarifying!
Jake Spirek
Nick: Thanks Nick. Will do.

R C: Of course! I totally understand the issue and get why it is annoying/frustrating. We thought about adding it to the filtered views where there is only one option, but for the time being decided against it. We felt it would be weird to have inconsistent behavior when adding a task to a filter - i.e. why are some tasks having these fields added automatically when filtering, but others aren't? It's a tricky problem!

Nick: Hey Nick, I know we are talking about this functionality if a board is filtered by Tag only over in this request:
But I wanted to point out Notion just came out with a solution here that is specifically addressing the issue of "disappearing tasks when you add them in a filtered view:"
So perhaps you guys could think about this some more? This is a terrific help when trying to pre-assign to tasks a lot of attributes.
Thanks!
Jake Spirek
Yes!! This has been bugging me when I'm working in views that are filtered by a custom field. I want to keep adding things and not have them disappear. Excited for this one!

Hey this is a great suggestion, I was just trying this and realized it doesn't work, would love to have this guys!
In my case, I wanted to add a bunch of tasks that would automatically pick up a custom field value that I'd sorted my list around. I added a few tasks, to my surprise, they didn't show up in the List - because they didn't get the value of that Custom Field automatically.
As I see that Zeb you marked it in progress about a year ago, if you get a moment, could you update this for us? Again this is a terrific feature I just realized its benefit!
Thanks as always guys!

Zeb: what's the current status of this? It's super frustrating when you're in a filtered view and go to create a new task, and the task you created just vanishes! Tasks need to inherit the custom field, tags, priorities, etc of the filtered view so they stay in view.

Zeb: When the task is created in filtered view, it should have the same labels and status that you are filtered to. Nirvana (my old task manager) does this and I miss it!

Heather Gray: It's coming very soon :)

New Task Button In All Views

It's simple in list view to create a new task by typing in the Create new task area or clicking New Task.
I use this view a lot, however, I also filter by Due Date. For some reason, when filtering by due date, the option to create a new task there goes away, leaving me only to use the button in the top right corner. Much less convenient.
I pretty much always have things sorted by Due Date so it'd be great if that didn't cause features to disappear!
