Summary:
I'd like a visibility setting for Custom Fields so they can be set to appear only on parent tasks instead of on every subtask.
The problem today:
Custom Fields are applied to the whole List, so every subtask inherits them. Many of our fields (client name, budget, due dates, project status, contacts, etc.) only matter at the project level. Seeing them empty on every subtask is confusing and makes data entry messy. The current workarounds (hiding empty fields, collapsing subtasks, moving tasks to separate Lists) don't actually solve this.
Requested feature:
  • When creating or editing a Custom Field, add a visibility option such as: "Show on: All tasks / Parent tasks only / Subtasks only."
  • Fields set to "Parent tasks only" would not appear on subtasks at all (not just hidden when empty).
  • Optional: let subtasks display parent field values as read-only, so key project info is visible without being duplicated.
Why this matters:
  • Reduces clutter and confusion for team members working on subtasks.
  • Keeps project-level data clean and in one place.
  • Makes reporting and dashboards more accurate.
  • Removes the need for workarounds like separate Lists or checklists.
Thank you for considering this. It would make our Lists much cleaner and easier to use.
