The problem
The Time Tracked rollup adds up every entry on a task and its subtasks, billable and non-billable. For services teams, the number that matters on a project is billable hours against the budget. Because non-billable time (internal meetings, admin, rework) is mixed in, the rollup overstates hours used, and tasks look over budget when they aren't. You can't trust the total at a glance.
Current workaround
We set up a separate project for every engagement's non-billable time, with "Non-Billable" in the name so consultants know where to log it. That keeps the main project's rollup clean, but it doubles the number of projects we manage, splits one engagement's time across two places, and makes the time entry task list even longer. We still need outside reports to see the full picture of an engagement.
Requested solution
Add a setting to the Time Tracking Rollup to count billable time only, non-billable only, or all time
Set it at the Workspace, Space, Folder, or List level, with inheritance
Show billable and non-billable totals separately on the task, so both are still visible
Use the same setting when comparing time tracked to time estimate (progress and over-budget indicators)
Carry the billable / non-billable split into List views, Dashboards, and exports
Who benefits
PMs, finance, and ops leads tracking hour budgets on client projects, plus anyone reporting burn or utilization to clients.
Impact
The rollup becomes a real budget number we can trust on the task itself. We can keep each engagement in one project instead of two, cut down the time entry task list, rely less on outside reports, and get earlier warning when a project is actually running hot.
