Option to Disable Download for Shared/Public Documents
M
Marc Kemmer
Currently, when sharing documents publicly or with external users, there is no option to prevent viewers from downloading the document. For many organizations, especially those handling sensitive or proprietary information, it is important to control the distribution of their content.
Please add an option for document owners to disable the ability for viewers to download shared or public documents. This setting should be available when configuring sharing permissions.
Benefits:
• Provides better control over document distribution.
• Helps protect sensitive or proprietary information.
• Supports compliance with internal and external data protection policies.

Feature Request:
Granular Permission to Restrict File Downloads and Exports
Dear ClickUp Product Team,
I would like to formally submit a feature request that we consider critical for organizations with strict Information Security and Data Protection requirements.
Currently, ClickUp does not provide a native capability to restrict file downloads or prevent users from exporting, saving, or printing documents as PDF files. This limitation creates a significant challenge for organizations managing confidential, sensitive, or regulated information within the platform.
To strengthen data protection controls and reduce the risk of unauthorized disclosure or information leakage, we request the development of a granular permission that allows administrators to restrict file downloads and document exports.
Ideally, this permission should:
Prevent users from downloading files attached to tasks, documents, or other ClickUp assets.
Restrict the ability to export, save, or print content as PDF.
Be configurable at the User Roles and Permissions Console, allowing administrators to assign or revoke this capability based on business needs and security policies.
Support role-based access control so that only authorized users can download or export information.
Be available at both workspace and custom role levels to provide maximum flexibility.
This functionality is increasingly important for organizations that must comply with Information Security frameworks, internal governance policies, customer confidentiality requirements, and regulatory obligations. Providing administrators with the ability to control download and export permissions would significantly enhance ClickUp’s security posture and help customers reduce the risk of confidential information being distributed outside authorized environments.
We believe this enhancement would add substantial value for enterprise customers and organizations operating in highly regulated industries.
Thank you for considering this request. We would appreciate having this feature evaluated and included in your product roadmap.
Kind regards,
Karina García Montecinos - Danta Analytics.
