Open task directly from Inbox instead of showing me the intermediate view of comments/activity
not on the roadmap
Dmitri Goosens ☕🐧
hi,
Currently, when clicking on a task in the Inbox, it opens in some kind of intermediate notification view...
IMHO, this view is very confusing and about 99.99% of the time, I will open the task.
This results in additional clicks... also to close the notification... Not very efficient.
Would be nice to have an option to open the tasks directly in the "task view" and bypass the intermediate "notification view"
thanks

441 / 5.000 Improvements to the Inbox for Comments and Replies

Inbox improvements
Two similar functions, but duplicated.
I think that in this part there shouldn't be an activity option on the right side, in the task, and it could just be the leave a comment field in the left side view in the INBOX.
If I see a message and need to respond, I need to click on the activities icon on the right side to enter the comments area and respond.
There are a lot of clicks.

Fullscreen mode shouldn't be the default on Inbox

When I click on a task in the inbox, I should land directly in the task. this intermediate page only needs more clicks until I am in the task.

ClickUp Inbox: Clicking a Comment Should Open the Task and Highlight the Comment
Abraham Gluck
In the ClickUp Inbox, when I click on a comment, it does
not
open the task. Instead, it opens a comment-only view, where replies are shown stacked underneath the original comment. In this view, it’s very unclear what I’m supposed to read first, which comment is a reply to which, and what the full context is.This comment-only view is not useful for understanding the task history. I almost always need to see the full task, including previous comments, status changes, field updates, and overall activity, to properly understand what’s going on. Right now, I have to take extra steps to open the task and then manually find the comment again.
For tasks with multiple comments or long discussions, this is confusing and inefficient. My normal workflow is to open the task, review the surrounding history, and then respond or take action. I already do this manually every time, and it would be much better if ClickUp supported this flow natively.
I would like clicking a comment in the ClickUp Inbox to open the task itself and automatically scroll to and highlight the exact comment that triggered the Inbox item, instead of opening a standalone comment view. This would make it much clearer what relates to what and would significantly improve Inbox usability.

Simplify the inbox - too many clicks and confusing
Joshua Borger
The inbox has too many clicks and is confusing with the overview. It'd make more sense that, when you click on a notification, you get taken directly to what notified you. For example, if the status changed on a task and you clicked on the notification in your inbox, you get taken directly to that task's view. Then, the activity sidebar would navigate to that status change and highlight it. That way you get all the context you need, but the change you were notified of is highlighted and very obvious.
Having an overview that then requires extra clicks to see the context you need makes it more confusing and wastes time.

Open tasks from the inbox in expanded view
Victor Lai
Every time I am in the inbox and open a Notification, I need to click the Expand button at the top right to expand it to see the full task.
It'd save me a click every time I open a notification by having an option to open tasks in Expanded view from the Inbox. There's no keyboard shortcut for this either!

👉 Automatic scroll to the last comment from the inbox
Anthony
When a notification is clicked in the inbox, ClickUp opens the task, but does not automatically scroll to the last message.
Result: you have to manually scroll to the bottom to read the most recent answer.
This breaks the flow of reading and impairs responsiveness — especially in projects with a high volume of comments.
💡 Suggestion: Add anchors to the messages and scroll directly to the message concerned in the task.

Re-enable opening inbox tasks directly in full view
Sarah Esmaeili
Originally, it was possible to click on any task in the Inbox using the middle mouse button (or via right-click) to open that task directly and fully in a new tab/window. This functionality was removed in the last updates. I am now forced to click every single task once just to open a preview. Then, inside that preview, I have to click again to finally open the actual task view.
In a large agency environment with many projects, responsibilities, and incoming requests, this additional overhead is enormous and highly frustrating. Why do I have to click through two views just to end up in the third view, which is the actual task? Many messages or task assignments do not require a preview. In many cases, I simply want to go directly to the full task view with a single click. The preview is a useful optional feature, but it should not be the only way to access a task.
Currently, handling multiple incoming tasks requires opening each preview, clicking again to open the full task, and then navigating back to the Inbox every time, resulting in unnecessary friction and significant productivity loss.
Please restore an ability to open Inbox tasks directly and fully (e.g. via middle mouse button or right-click → open in new tab), without being forced through the preview view first.

Opening a task in the inbox

Václav Blovský
When you click on a task in the inbox, the task opens in a special view. Wouldn't it be more convenient to open it when you click in the standard view and have the opening in the special view in the context menu? Now you have to go to the context menu and it's frustrating.

Not sure if there is another request like this one but I will add here that I love the side by side view when pressing 'details' button.
It would be even better for those with large screens to be able to extend that view and see activities as well where the flow can go from inbox -> task view -> activity view
