New Action: Apply List/Folder/Space template
planned

Brittny Borgeson
Currently it looks like we can only apply a task template, we'd like to have a folder template created when a task status changes
July 7, 2023 EDIT: Original title was just looking to have folder templates added. List and Space were added as well as they are related asks.

December 5th 🎄Thank you to everyone for your feedback here.
We do have plans to build out apply list templates within automations, and that work will hopefully start relatively soon. However, to be clear, we will not be doing folder or space templates at first to make sure everything performs nicely.
By a show of votes, would that still be helpful? Or are folder and space templates the main ask here?

Zach AMAZING NEWS!!!! apply list templates from an automations is an amazing good new!
Taylor Whitney
Zach The ability to apply a list template via automation is what I'm looking for.
Reed Holland
Zach, an automation to apply a template to a list would be really helpful. Especially if it works when you create a list from a task.

Zach that’s a step in the right direction but we use folders and need templates there. We have to do an ungodly amount of workarounds to do the simple action of having a folder automatically created from a template which just seems like it would be live by now. Folders are what we need.
Chris Atherton
Zach automated list creation from a list template is what we would like. Not interested in folders / spaces at the moment. Might be different when we finally get more sub folders
Jackson James
Zach List templates is a great start. Folder templates with be an equally huge help (for onboarding new clients)
Pierre Becher
Zach In terms of priority it would be like this for us:
- List (for projects, high template usage)
- Folder (for clients, medium to high template usage)
- Space (for departments, rarely template usage)
Kristen Clements
Zach Great news! My primary request is to apply a list template.
Hannah Keyes
Zach Lists will definitely be helpful. Folders will be the bigger solve to so many onboarding headaches.
Daniel Urbano
Zach Will be really helpful as an initial Stage. We currently do that through the API but would be lot easier without it.
Zach
Wonderful. Thanks, everyone, for the feedback, and noted on folders being the next biggest one!

Automation to apply list template

The ability to apply a list template via automation.
e.g. a "project" (task) is created in a projects overview list. The automation would then apply a list template for that project. Being able to also use the "project" (task) name as the list name automatically would great.

Create Template List or Folder from Automation

When programing an automation I want to be able to select a template List or Folder from the Template Center and select where it should be created.
This would allow for real entreprise process and avoid clutter.

Imagine this scenario:
You have a list that acts as a CRM. Deals (tasks) arrive in the CRM list through any channel (manual, email, or form). These deals move through different sales stages...
New lead > Discovery > Informed > Proposal > Follow-up > Lost or Won.
It would be fantastic if, when a deal moves to the “Won” status and depending on the project type (Dropdown), a list could be created in a projects space from a predefined template for that type of project.
This feature used to exist in ClickUp and could be done, but it disappeared overnight.
Many clients request this functionality, especially when sales processes are involved. Please, team, seriously consider re-implementing this feature because it would be extremely useful.
Right now, the entire process is manual.

JMartinez: "This feature used to exist in ClickUp and could be done, but it disappeared overnight. " could you tell us a bit more about this? What specific feature in that flow doesn't exist anymore?
We haven't ever had the ability to apply a list template via automations, although we're getting close to working on it!

Hello Zach
Maybe I’m mistaken and I’m confusing it with the feature that has always existed: creating a list without applying a template.
If I had to bet a hand on whether that function ever existed or not, I’d definitely lose a hand.
Thank you for your response and sorry for my confusion.
We look forward to that feature like waiting for Santa Claus’ gifts—many of my clients would benefit from it, myself included.

This would really help our project workflow.
First, a request (task) comes in. The task is reviewed and if deemed pertinent will become a project. Our projects are large and we use Lists as our project containers. Currently we have to manually:
Create a new list with the same name as the request (task) from a template
Move the request (task) to the new list
Apply a task template to the request
This is an intensive process for our project manager and when we have 20-40 projects that come through each week like that, it can add up to a lot of time spent on just trying to move and organize projects.
This feature would really help cut down on some of that manual work.

This would be a great feature for me and would massively increase company use of ClickUp

Trigger Task List Template

Would like to be able to trigger additional Templates with automoations. Specifically List templates.
Use Case: I have a folder for my client with an Implementation list. Within that list is a task that asks whether a certain type of dat integration is needed. If Yes, then I would like to trigger the additional List of tasks (Template) to complete the data integration.

Add the ability to create an automation to make a new list from an existing list template.

This would be a very useful addition - and basically it is essential to allow bulk import of projects for example.

This is much much-needed automation type. It's common and basic, and should be taken as part of high priorities, please.
Any updates yet?
