Asana recently added the feature to create a custom number field and have it auto-sum on the parent task. This works very similar to the Time rollup option. However, with all the automation that ClickUp has and how much better than Asana most of the features are, I really don't understand how ClickUp has not created a simple rollup field for numbers.
Here are the use cases:
Parent task data is needed for project metrics based on all subtask values:
-Subtasks for specific teams collect information such as number of: square footage, days in field, scans, problems, etc. These numbers would be collected in a single column/custom field, which automatically sums up the total at the Parent task level.
Even the rollups for the date fields do not work this way. We have various sub-tasks that represent different phases of the project along with different teams responsible. We would want to track when the data for a specific task is complete and report that at the project/parent task level. As it is, I can create a custom field, and I can write a date to it with automation based on start date, completion date, creation date, etc. But, what I cannot do with any of the current rollup tools is to get those dates from the subtasks to the parent task where I need the data for reporting.
Honestly, the current rollup options are completely useless in ClickUp for our purposes, except for the time rollup, which works like all the rest of the rollups should. Instead you have to connection to other lists, make relationships, or track start or end dates for all tasks in the space without being able to just focus on the subtasks and add that to a template so it can be launched with every project.
The current rollup tools could be much more simplified and useful to ClickUp users if they could have simple features that mirror what is being done for the time rollup feature.
