This is a great idea. To add to this, I would like a condensed design inside of Task View 3.0 being in favor of breadcrumbs. Included some mockup options to reflect ideas inspired by the OP.

There are examples of this all through the application. Below are two examples from list view and task detail view. There are other feature requests for dashboards etc. Needs a good work through with multi level subtasks now supported.

Agreed. Right now, we can see one layer above, but this isn't very usable with 7 layers of Subtasks now possible.
