Multi column statuses for tasks
Tom De Smet
This is the way how monday.com works and it is very interesting for motiongraphics projects for example.
Instead of having a "to do/done" kind of task, monday.com allows you to set your own number of columns with their own statuses. This way a task isn't confined to a single status.
For example: a scene for a 3D animation has the following columns: Preview animatic, Animation, Texturing, Lighting, Rendered and Composited.
In any of these columns, a task can have the status "to do, done, in progress, etc...".
It's kind of a different way of organizing things and tbh I don't have a good idea at the moment how to incorporate it into ClickUp, but it's a great approach for these kind of projects.

We need this feature as well! We are producing furniture, and often multiple "lanes" have to happen simultaneously. Build this, please!

In Notion I can have multi status. For example, a project can have several simultaneous states using multi labels and then grouping by labels, in the Kanban view they will appear in as many columns as there are states.
I tried to do the same in Clickup but I can't do it because if a project has the label "animating" and "lighting" when grouped in the Kanban view, you will have a column with the two states. I don't see the point.

Hey Leandro Salerno! You can do that by adding as many "dropdown" Custom Fields as you want and use it as different statuses. Then whenever you're in the List or Board view, you can always group by that Custom Fields!
Here's a doc for more info 🙂 https://docs.clickup.com/en/articles/2310503-custom-fields-clickapp.

Waleed Elaghil: Hi! thanks for answering. I understand what you explain. But the solution is really inefficient because I have to duplicate the information in as many "dropdowns" as I add.
Leandro Salerno
Waleed Elaghil: I hope I can illustrate what I mean. In this case they are multi-labels and then grouped on a board. Tasks should be repeated based on their tags.

I see that this is a "planned" feature, would it only be limited to the kanban board view, or with this ability would be able to sub-class a status (like "closed" for example) in other views too?
Our team's particular need is to be able to differentiate "Closed - Done" from "Closed - Not Needed" to assist with our template refining and feature tracking for larger projects. Using "Done" statuses leaves the tasks in the users' views by default so we'd prefer to be able to mark these not needed tasks as "closed".

I could really use this feature

Hello, I believe this is a great suggestion. I don't know monday.com but Eric Brechner (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKWvmiY7f_g) don't think is orginal from him, but Is great. This doesn't work great for personal management, but for a team is great if you have a consistent staged project management. The done and doing subcolums for stages are great and you can manage metrics for them. Hope I see this implemented in clickup, could become the rosetta stone, holy grail of project management. Projects based on linear Gantt and projects based on process in the same app. simply WOW!

I would prefer sub-columns to be able to plan and follow-up statuses based on phases / colleagues' positions - while majority is interested only in the big picture.

So you are using Custom Fields for Columns Views?

Tom De Smet This suggestion is basically about "swim lanes", which are rows on a Kanban board. Statuses are columns, and phases are rows (swim lanes). Monday.com is just displaying the swim lanes differently.
I'd love to see this feature as well.
