We already have this in our current app 🙂
Stay tuned, our new app is coming soon with a better native experience!
Martin Currie
Waleed Elaghil: No we really don't. We need a standalone app so in two touches we can be tracking time. What we have now takes way too much time to be useful for time tracking.
Waleed Elaghil
Hey Martin Currie! I completely agree with you. We're definitely going to make it seamless in our new app that we're releasing very soon!
We had to close this request since it's since 2018 and was referring to our old mobile version where time tracking was not existing.
Martin Currie
Thanks Waleed Elaghil - so will the 'new app' be multiple apps, or just one? If it's just one, I'm not sure how you can implement two touch time tracking as proposed in https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/standalone-iosandroid-time-tracking-app
Waleed Elaghil
Martin Currie: The new app will contain all features under one app. We've already released our new app (IOS version only. Android is coming very soon) and you can go check it out 🙂
Since we built the app natively from the ground up, Time Tracking is not in our initial release yet but is definitely in our roadmap. You can see our Mobile roadmap here
Martin Currie
Waleed Elaghil: while the new app looks very pretty, from what I can see, time tracking will still require way too many taps to be useful.
I’m guessing you tap to open the app, then tap the middle nav button, then tap the time tracking button (not yet there) all before you can do anything with time tracking.
People who track everything need a way to avoid all these taps - see https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/standalone-iosandroid-time-tracking-app

Hey Martin Currie! As a strategy, we're planning to keep all functionalities under one roof, one App!
Having a sperate app will defeat our mission of "One App To Replace Them All". However, I completely agree with you that time tracking should be seamless and we will consider solving that with some UX/UI tricks 🙂

Any update on the Mobile Start/Stop Tracking?
Denis Znachko
Leon Mellett: What prevents you from using this feature? I've probably misunderstood the whole feature request topic, but I've successfully tracked time for my task this morning using my 11 Android Google Pixel 2.
I'd simply created a task, opened it and clicked on the time tracking button. Timer started. Than I switched to some other apps and spent about 20 minutes overall doing stuff. When I returned to ClickUp from the recent apps list, it was where I'd left it - at my task editing window. I simply clicked on Stop tracking button, which resulted in that task been assigned a time spent measured.
Worked like a charm.
Martin Currie
Denis Znachko: The problem is the number of touches required to start and stop timers.
A stand alone time tracking app would allow two touch time tracking:
touch one - open app
touch two - touch task to start timer
(for less recently tracked tasks, you'd need to scroll down or search before touch two)
I added more details in this request: https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/standalone-iosandroid-time-tracking-app

Martin Currie: Oh, I see. Well, I've come to, partially, the same thoughts yesterday.
Still, pardon me, but your "action flow" doesn't seem entirely correct to me. Let me share my concept of a possible algorithm:
- tap - one - open standalone time tracking app;
- tap - two - most likely such app implements similar "inbox" and other tabs, so select that;
- swipe - three - if tasks are grouped / categorized, find a folder;
- tap - four - open that folder;
- swipe - five - find the task;
- tap - six - start the tracker.
So, it might be 3 to 6-8 actions depending on tasks structure, mightn't it?
Needles to say, structuring is good, since I, personally, have +- 40 tasks on my current week agenda. Visually searching through them all would be a great pain...
Martin Currie
Denis Znachko: I really think that two taps for recent items is possible, and the most efficient menthod.
I'd have said that your step two onwards would be initiated with a tap of a button button in a button bar. Above that bar there would be a list of recently tracked tasks.
This way you only need:
* two taps to track something you have recently been working on,
* tap, swipe, tap for something you were working on earlier than can be seen on screen,
* up to six steps to navigate to any other task as you sugggest above.

Please build this into the new app.
Nick
JTK: It will be! Most likely will be added to the existing app in the meantime too since it is such a big feature.

I was going to write a request on this and found your post first. Yes, I use a multi timer to monitor time usage, since time management goes well together with task management. It would make this time tracking feature more useful if it were on the mobile app. In an attempt to localize as many apps and forms of task management as possible (i.e. Clickup has OneDrive for documents, storage; time management feature... etc), and since I use time management throughout the day the mobile app is more convenient and accessible.

how close are we to this functionality? It is extremely important for our team
Thibault de Changy
Absolutely one of those BASICS you must focus on.
I would add for really good UX enhancement as users expect : add this as a notification module ! Just like a music app, tap the button to pause or end the recording. Simple & efficient isn't it ?
Disclaimer : Let's 2020 be the year of GOOD PRACTICES - NO! fancy features anymore until all the basics are done please (web/mobile enhanced similar tools, global view & template system, and of course UI/UX best practices as I posted it @ https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/uiux-keep-navigation-simple-and-standard)
