Lock limited members at view only

It would be useful if admins could restrict limited members to view only. Currently, members can give limited members access beyond view only, which incurs a cost. We want to avoid having to monitor limited members and the access that has been given to them by members.

No automatic permission or role changes should be possible, especially if they lead to unexpected costs.
Any changes like that must require explicit approval from the workspace owner or admins with respective permissions.

CRITICAL!

Yes!!
The other BIG problem is when a limited member submits a form, they are marked as the "Task Creator" and are automatically given FULL permissions to edit the task as they please. No. They are "read-only" or "comment-only" for a reason. This a huge issue.

Alternatively, if this is impossible to achieve, could sharing default to view-only instead of full-edit? That way accidentally giving too much access to limited members and going over the seat limit would be less likely.

Sophie Weber: Thank you for your feedback. We are working on a feature that will allow you to control access for Limited members, including the ability to set them as view-only for all content.

Armine Seropyan Great, thanks for the update

Armine Seropyan When is this feature being built? We just got hit with a $1000+ invoice because some view-only limited members were inadvertently changed to have edit permission to one task each. It's ludicrous.

Armine Seropyan And how will this feature work? It's not good enough to just have a one click way to set someone to "view-only for all content". We need a way to prevent limited members from getting upgraded a limited member at all, as that's when ClickUp hits us with surprise deceptive hidden fees for "overage" users.

Hi Greg Akselrod! Thank you for sharing your feedback and the impact this has had on your team. Right now, we’re in the scoping and planning phase for this feature. Our current approach is to introduce controls that restrict who can upgrade limited members—for example, only admins would be able to approve upgrades, rather than allowing any members to do so. Users would still be able to submit a request to an admin if they need an upgrade. This should help prevent accidental upgrades by members and unexpected charges.
If you have any additional scenarios or requirements, please let me know so we can make sure they’re considered during planning.

Armine Seropyan Yes that sounds perfect. When is this feature expected to be launched?

This is critical. Its great that we can add (view only) limited members which are free users with access to chats and direct channels. However this completlely undermines permissions if a limited member (full access) can simply share a task with full permissions with a (view only) limited member and then that member becomes a fully paid user. LIMITED MEMBERS SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO INCURR COSTS FOR OUR BUSINESS! Please fix this ASAP
