Link to Outlook Email (instead of an attachment)
Simon Lewis
I was working with Todoist a couple of years ago, and their Outlook plugin allowed me to link to the actual email, not save it as an attachment (making it easier to follow up and reply, etc.)
It would be great if ClickUp could do the same.
while emails as attachments are useful as an artefact, they're not great for keeping people not on ClickUp to task!

Hey everyone. Thanks for all your suggestions and feedback. We're exploring an new update for ClickUp Outlook add-in and we see that adding a link to an email is highly requested feature, so we would love to hear more.
Where do you expect email's url to be in ClickUp task you created from Outlook add-in? (e.g. task description)
Looking forward to hearing your feedback. Thanks!
Rodrigo Carballo
Tadej Jevševar Hello. I think having the URL to the original email in the Task Description is a good approach.
Maybe the same feature could be applied when sending an email to the list? This will eliminate the inconvenience of having an excess of attachments (images, signatures) in the task.

Tadej Jevševar Jira do this very well. The email chain displays in the task description, and with 1 click you can respond to the email chain without having to go to Outlook at all and without having to re-enter the email address and subject line. When the user then replies, it displays the email as text and provides a notification that it has been updated. This area is the biggest drawback of ClickUp so it would be great if it could be improved.

Tadej Jevševar I still would like to be able to save only the email in the clickup comments. It's easier to share an e-mail with people who were not in the TO or CC fields, but are assigned to the task.
The only annoying thing for me are all the pictures from e-mail footer.
A link to an e-mail message could be an additional option.
Please let us choose the way we work by providing botch options :)
Tadej Jevševar
Rodrigo Carballo, what if there would be an option to select what email attachments you want to include in the task?
Can you please explain more what you mean with sending an email to the list?
Tadej Jevševar
Jakub Tomczak: Yeah, understand about email footers, can be noisy. Agree with the options. Thanks!
Tadej Jevševar
Gary Railton, would you have 30 min for a call? I would love to learn more about your use case using ClickUp Outlook add-in? Here is my link in case you are interested for a call. Thank you!
Rodrigo Carballo
Tadej Jevševar Hello. More than happy to collaborate! See, when you send an email to the List Email Address (see the screenshot attached to see how I get that address), a Task is created and the content of the email becomes the Task Description. Also all the images (including signatures) become attachments in the Task. This creates a lot of unnecessary attachments.
Regarding the Outlook add-in, I can imagine a User not sending an email to the List Email Address, but rather create the Task using the add-in. It would be awesome if you could select what attachments you want to attach in the Task. This would prevent unnecessary attachments from being created.
Let me know if you need anything else from my side!
Tadej Jevševar
Rodrigo Carballo, this was super helpful, thank you so much! Let's explore if setting in Outlook add-in for selecting attachments could improve sending emails to the list feature.

Tadej Jevševar I would think the "Links" section would make the most sense. Then an Outlook icon could appear in the right sidebar of the task view.

I love Clickup and use it for my tax practice. However, their "integration" with outlook is not an integration. It is 2 different steps and broken in the middle. You can create a task from outlook and save the email in the task automatically. You can then email out of clickup and it will show as being emailed out of outlook. BUT the email that you need to access that is saved to the task is saved as a picture! Yes a picture and cannot be accessed. So as I was hoping to move my Task list form Outlook to clickup, it remains in Outlook until this integration is truly an integration!

Seems quite strange that this has actually not got more traction as it seems quite critical and basic.

Pretty much ditto what Lucas said: "However, adding the functionality to link the email so that the email chain is functional from within the ClickUp task that we chose to link it to would be a game-changer for me. That would allow me to spend even less time in Outlook (my main goal)."
After working with Zoho CRM two-way Outlook integration, I find it very nearly a showstopper that if an email comes into Outlook there is no way reply to it from Clickup. Additionally, I'd like the integration to be smart enough to use the email address as a key field so Clickup knows what task to link it to. I realize the flexibility of Clickup might make that harder, but if we are using the default email field in our tasks it should be doable. If the same email is in the field in more than one task, the system could present the choices to me. That would be so much faster than going through our hierarchy to find the task.

I agree; this would be extremely helpful for my workflow. I like the current features of the ClickUp/Outlook add-on that allows us to attach emails to current tasks and create new tasks.
However, adding the functionality to link the email so that the email chain is functional from within the ClickUp task that we chose to link it to would be a game-changer for me. That would allow me to spend even less time in Outlook (my main goal).

Strikethrough text is lost in translation when ClickUp converts an email to html. Crossed out text in an email renders as normal (not crossed out) text in the html version.
I proposed a fix to the html conversion but ClickUp support added me to this feature request as a possible solution. However, every user in our team needs to be able to view the email no matter who added it to ClickUp. I'm not sure if/how other users will be able to open links to emails which are not on their mail account?

The link back to email works when you add a task on the web version of outlook https://outlook.office365.com/owa/

Hmm I'm not sure, Jonathon Arbona aware of this one?
Waleed Elaghil
Hey! I've checked with the team and this would be a feature request and not a bug.
Currently, if the email is archived, it gets a new item ID. There is no any solution on how to get the permanent link which will work for archived and non archived emails.
Thank you!

Waleed Elaghil: Was a new feature request ever created for the issue regarding emails being moved to a different folders/archived causing outlook links to break? It really makes the ClickUp email add-on less useable for anyone who keeps their inboxes even somewhat organized.

Miles Mitchell Waleed Elaghil I have this same issue when a message is moved or archived.

This feature would really be helpful as many of the tasks involve interacting with the requester who is not a Clickup user and does not need to be one.
