Let the "Overview" be an optional view
Jana Michelová
With the 3.0 release, we got the "Overview" view in folder that is apparently required. This means, after entering a folder, you need to make additional click into your list, because it's second in a row, overview being the first. The overview cannot be dragged anywhere, neither turned off. Pinning other views doesn't help either. Please, make this "overview" view optional. I don't need it at all, and this only makes me click even more to get where I need. Thank you.

Hey, everyone! We've updated the status of this request to reflect its roadmap status. The Product Manager will provide updates on this post when they have new details to share! For more details about our statuses, check out this post!
Frank Filippelli
Luci N. So you're essentially saying you guys have made absolutely no progress on this request 🤦♂️ Unbelievable!
Luci N.
Hey, Frank Filippelli! We've simplified the statuses and removed 'Considering' since it was causing confusion!
The Product Manager will now move a feature request to the 'Future' or 'Planned' status once it's confirmed on our roadmap.
While this feature request isn't yet committed to our roadmap, the Product Manager is still reviewing this one and gathering insights!
Because of this, we have moved it back to "Open" since "Considering" has been removed.
If you have any additional ideas for this request, please continue to share, and our Product Manager will take a look!
Slava
Sigurd Seteklev I see you are looking for customer insights on this one.

The lack of fit with my needs is so great, I went on to find this place to report this issue.
What I actually consistently need when I open clickup daily:

Slava I really feel your pain! Clickup just need to finally wake up and realize that users need more simplicity in our apps. Life is complicated enough!

The required Overview pinned to the first spot is really problematic, especially in locations that also have a Dashboard. The Overview seems to just be a more limited version of a Dashboard anyways, so it's not clear how it's adding any value - just clutter and confusion.
Frank Filippelli
Erra Faye Zabat This request is just so true and is such a simple fix. I don't understand why Clickup doesn't care about it's users at all. We ask for such simple fixes for years and get nothing at all. 😡

The overview is useless in our workflow and should be optional.
Sigurd Seteklev
Alexis Piraina: Thank you for your feedback. It's noted!
Natalie Williams
Alexis Piraina agreed. In 90% of my workflow and in the workflows of other businesses I'm involved in it's a useless view. It doesn't offer anything unique compared to dashboards and makes getting to the task list more complex. Why it was a forced addition makes no sense.

Thanks for your email asking for feedback on the required Overview view.
I watched the video at the link you sent, but it was poorly done and confusing. I couldn't follow the explanation or understand the three use cases or the customer targets it's trying to define. None of them seemed to apply to me.
Conceivably, I could use the Overview once a week when planning my week. But I don't need most of the cards or the color-coded progress bars. Currently, I plan my weeks and days using Gantt charts for overall project management and time blocking for working on specific tasks during the week. I use a table view with tasks sorted by due date and priority as my primary tool for determining what I'm supposed to work on during a specific time block.
I tried customizing Overview by deleting all the cards that I wouldn't use: Docs, Bookmarks, Folders, Lists, Resources, and especially the pie chart of Workload by Status. With all that out of the way, I end up with "Recent," which is of limited use.
The best option for me would still be to eliminate the Overview entirely and let me set my "TableGrp" view, which I use 90% of the time, as the default in all my projects.
I'm nonplussed why ClickUp is contorting itself in this way, spending far more then the time needed to code a toggle or two into the UI just to prevent its customers from removing the Overview and getting right to work. Is there some hard-wired spaghetti code that will necessitate a massive rewrite? Is there a licensing requirement? Baffling.

A.C. Ross: Thank you for your reply. We'll continue to improve this, but there are many historical and current issues we need to navigate.
Sigurd Seteklev
A small update here: Last week, we made a UX update to views. Now, clicking on a location will take you back to the last view you visited during your session, unless you have set a "Default view." If there is no "last visited" view in the session, you'll still be taken to the Overview. While this isn't exactly what was requested here, we hope it helps in the meantime.
This change is consistent with the UX in other parts of the app (e.g., Hubs).
We welcome any feedback on this new feature! 😊

Sigurd Seteklev introducing states in the ux is always a recipie for confusion.
keep it simple. make things optional. or configurable. dont try to outsmart your users.

Sigurd Seteklev Is this change live already? I'm still landing on the Overview for any Folder I open.
James Wooldridge
Sigurd Seteklev It looks like that's being stored locally (cookies) as it's not remembering my choice across browsers.
Please stop trying to appease us with these small changes that are just wasting your dev time, and make Overviews optional. That way we can use Dashboards when and if we want, like many in this thread have suggested. Overviews are redundant when we have Dashboards.
If you are really trying to provide some sort of Project Overview, it should be independent of the Workspace structure and allow for much more flexibility in terms of folders and lists included. Create a new entity called Project, allow us to link it to Lists from all over the workspace, plus add Project specific data like total hour and financial budget estimates. Link Goals to these too. There's so much more useful stuff you could be doing if you'd stop tinkering around with these Overviews.
Sigurd Seteklev
Aline: Yes it should be live for everyone. Note that it is only for the session. Are you still not experiencing it?
Sigurd Seteklev
James Wooldridge: Thank you for your feedback. It has been noted!

Sigurd Seteklev Hi! I'm sporadically experiencing ClickUp going to the List view directly after I clicked on a Folder. That only works the second time, of course. So for every single Folder, I have to go to the List view twice. It doesn't stick if I close the tab of the browser. And of course, the "session" is not shared between browser tabs. That means that I still have to go past the Overview every day, every single time I open a Folder. I don't understand why the Overview can't be optional. Please let ME decide how I get to my work, without jumping through hoops. This "feature" has been frustrating me for the past two years.
LBell
Sigurd Seteklev Why the glitchy inconsistent workaround, when the solution is clear? Just let me add or delete the overview "view" like any other view.

Rebecca Julius
The only thing that would really be useful to me in the overview would be the abliity to put a list of different VIEWS (at all levels throughout the space) there. So I could have views from the space, folders, or lists. THAT is really what gives me an overview of the entire space. A list of lists is not helpful to me, because every list has so many different views set up with different filters to show different data.
Sigurd Seteklev
Rebecca Julius: Thank you for your feedback 🙌
Dave Christy
Based on how we have organized our folders and lists, we would want to make it easy for non-power users of ClickUp to get started quickly. Direction A would be my preference.
