Import subtasks
complete
Veronica Daigle
For this to really work for our company, I need to be able to import many small identical projects based off a CSV. i.e. We might might have a Project with 100 Phase 1 reports, each with a location identifier, and a set list of subtasks (with fixed time budgets) that need to be assigned to different people. It would be awesome if the checklist could be mapped to subtasks instead, and the assignee field could map each assignee to a subtask based on the order. Or if template field could be mapped to allow a task template with set subtasks/assignees to be selected for each row of the CSV import. Or mass batch convert checklists to subtasks

You can now import subtasks in the latest release! https://docs.clickup.com/en/articles/3514486-release-2-15

Ivan Villa: This is a great addition, though being able to add subtask time estimates in the csv import would much improve this feature.

Veronica: I bet you can do this with the CSV import. I'm newer to ClickUp but have extensive use in PM with everything from SmartSheet. Basecamp, MS Project and others. I am loving Clickup and find it's multiple ways of hierarchy to be as creative as you can think of it.
Here's an idea: Upon import w CSV, it allows a number of variables that you can assign. For us, it took a bit of "re-thinking" how our data was laid out. But with some new thought, we were able to import and integrate it into ClickUp and use it better with more tags and identifiers that was much easier to navigate. For us, wrapping our head around CU's numerous levels of hierarchy (there are about 7/8) and you can usually convert "up or down" or even merge. There is even the field option for a cell with comma-delimiters. If you add tags, statuses and custom fields into the mix, the options are never-ending. The key is maybe moving your sheet data around to get into an acceptable "apps-speak" format and then importing it creatively. Then on some parts, you can "convert" a group of checklists to subs or otherwise. Many possibilities!

Zeb: Do we have a status on this, its been 7 months?
Zeb
Aaron Berson: We plan on improving all of our importing features in September/October

Zeb: is this still planned for Oct? This is actually a major deciding factor on whether or not our company would make a transition to click up.
Zeb
Olivia Gantner: Are you importing tasks from CSV? Our import updates are still in the pipeline as urgent but won't be completed in October

Zeb: I also need to know (pretty quickly) whether or not I can import subtasks

Anders Nielsen
Zeb: Any ETA yet? What is the compilation of this feature update?
Zeb
Anders Nielsen: Do you only need to import simple subtasks, such as the subtask's task name (CSV of subtask names)? Or do you need the entire subtask functionality with assignees etc?
A
Anders Nielsen
Zeb: I only need subtasks name as my subtasks are construction materials. Is this possible?
Zeb
Anders Nielsen: Awesome, we'll get this done very soon - the next couple of releases!
