Group by single item (labels, assignee, tags, etc.)
under review

Currently if one task was assigned to multiple assignee, this group of assignee will become an "assignee" to show with other single assignee, this is good for tasks, however this is not good to see the task load for each assignee, I would like to have a option to group by only single assignee, even some of the assignee may have the same task.

Michael Van Doorn what is the status here?
Michael Van Doorn
Hey, Paul Zürcher!
This request is top of mind for the Views team here at ClickUp. We're correctly planning out the timeline for when we get to this feature.
Can you tell me more about where this would help you the most? List view? Board view? What are you grouping by? Any details are great!
Paul Zürcher
Michael Van Doorn We use it in list-, table- and board view. Grouping by users or labels. In board view most often we want to subgroup by user fields like assignee.

Michael Van Doorn This is something I would like to not only see with assignees, but also with custom field labels and tags. List view and board view would be most helpful.
One example is assigning multiple assignees for a task, and then having a view broken down by each assignee, that way each person can see their breakdown of tasks. I'm the project manager so it'd also be helpful to see each person's load.
The other example is for a team breakdown. I'm using tasks to represent employees, and assigning them labels for what teams they're a part of. For example, I could be a part of the product team and marketing team. Then, I want to group by labels in a board view, so that each column is 1 label (the team).
The problem is the grouping is only set to the combination of labels, which limits the use for that grouping for lots of scenarios. And since dropdown is limited to 1 selection, there's no way to simulate that team view I'm trying to get.

Please!! One of the usecases I have for this is a stakeholder list with a label field for "Focus Area," where many stakeholders have multiple, but I want to group the list by Individual focus area--not by every possible combination. (Also ignore my username I am clearly running tests in my environment)

Very much needed. Trying to show staff's workload with a Task List grouped by Assignee in a Dashboard but instead of see each project they're assigned to, it groups by the seemingly infinite number of combinations of all the different assignees instead.

I'm begging you

This would definitely be helpful! I like having the option of grouping by multiple, but I also need to see it by each single item.

Yes! Glad to see this was already brought up, but not so glad to see it's been 4 years with no movement...
Implementing this change would be significant!

Please include tags - when I look at a tag group, I want to see all tasks for that tag, whether the task has just that tag or that tag and other tags as well
Michael Van Doorn
Hey, everyone!
Curious to hear your thoughts. If this was built as a toggle in the grouping dropdown, what would you name this feature?
- "Group by single"
- "Group by individual"
- "Group by value"
or perhaps the opposite (and you toggle it on/off)
- "Group multiple values"
Any suggestions are welcome!
Paco Guerrero
Group multiple values would be ok. But besides the name, when is that featyre be released ??? Is key for displaying information and waiting for so long to it !!!! Thanks

Michael Van Doorn I haven’t seen a need for grouping multiple values. I would definitely at least set the single as the default.

Michael Van Doorn Would default to grouping by individual values only, and toggle on the ability to group by multiple values. I think something like "Treat multiple values as a distinct group." would be the clearest, but if that's too long "Group by multiple values" works too.
Michael Van Doorn
Steve Daniels: Thanks for the response!
This questions comes from deciding on the in-app copy found on the toggle to change between the two experiences (Group individual items vs group multiple items). We'd support both options and allow the user to choose!
Michael Van Doorn
Paco Guerrero: Thank you! No release date to share today but it's top of mind for us to add

Michael Van Doorn I would find it intuitive to use the same toggle as already exists for filters in this situation.
Any/All, or perhaps Individual/All. Single/All would work too and fits the space better.
Rob Leslie
Michael Van Doorn I would also make this the default. I was very surprised by how it currently operates. But if you need to make it a toggle, how about "Group by combination of values" / "Group by individual values"?

Michael Van Doorn "Group multiple values" !!
Similar to what already exist in the board view to get swim lane.
"Group by" > "Couloir" (in french)
It could simply be a toggle under the one that already exist for couloir, and a new toggle option in the other view

Michael Van Doorn Group by individual if for assignees. The goal would be to get a report on what one person is touching.

Maybe “single values” vs “combinations”? Excited that this long-awaited feature is getting traction!

Michael Van Doorn can truly not think of any reason why anyone would find the way it works currently as useful. So I’d probably bury the setting into a sort setting and title it as a retired setting.
Group by combined (legacy) or something of the sorts.
It’s so completely useless as it currently stands I originally reported it as a bug as I can’t imagine why anyone would code it this way. If I tag something blue and red I need a list of all the tagged blue tasks and all the red tasks, not a list of all the blue tasks, red tasks and blue/red tasks. Absolutely obscure.
Might be worth putting as a click app toggle to not clutter menus since so few uses exist to want to group this way.

Ben Porter "All" would be too generic I think. Single/Combination toggle?
Jake Spirek
Michael Van Doorn omg please please please add this functionality. I'd honestly want it to always default to off so that tasks with multiple tags/assignees are grouped by individual rather than a million variations of the grouped versions which are almost never useful.
I've been wanting this for so long. Glad you are looking into this!
Michael Van Doorn
Jake Spirek: We're thinking the default will be that values are grouped individually. Users will then opt into 'Group multiple values'! Once released, existing views won't be changed (because we don't want to disrupt what you're used to) but new views will default to 'Group multiple values: OFF'

Michael Van Doorn Group by Individual sounds more appropriate

Michael Van Doorn Any updates on this?

Hey, Jake Spirek!
We're currently researching & planning this item for an upcoming quarter. It's top of mind to improve and something we are excited to get to
Jake Spirek
Michael Van Doorn thanks for the update! This is going to be SUPER helpful! 🙌

I would like to see this feature as well. I use tags to label tasks with the people I need to follow up with. When I go to call someone I want to see all the tasks they are working on so I can have an efficient call. I can use a filter, but grouping by tag and showing each person separately would be easier. Also, a list of all the people with all their work grouped under them makes it easier to decide who I need to call.

This is doable in some cards in the dashboard view, so shouldn't be that complicated to implement in list views. Seems like filtering needs an "includes" option in addition to "Is" and "Is Not"
