Global New Task Hotkey
complete

I'm slowly moving across from ToDoist, but they have a handful of things that mean I can't abandon them just yet. The main one for me is ClickUp's lack of a globally binding "Add New Task" key.
For clarity, I want to be able to add a ClickUp task no matter what app I'm using on my Mac/PC using one global shortcut.
I use ⌘-Shift A on ClickUp. See screenshot for reference.

This request is from 2019 and a lot has changed since the original post.
* There is a dedicated, global shortcut in the desktop application to create a new task (Cmd E on Mac, Ctrl E on Windows).
* There is also a dedicated shortcut (Cmd J on Mac, Ctrl J on Windows) that will open up the Command Center regardless of what app you are in.
* You can use the Command Center to run any command like "Create New Doc", or quickly jump to any task with a search
These keyboard shortcuts are also customizable (run "Go to Desktop App Settings" to get to desktop settings).
We also expanded what types of shortcuts you can use. Now you can set shortcuts that don't include alphanumeric characters, like "Cmd + Space", for example.
We haven't converged the free-floating Command Center window with the quick-task creation flow, but agree with the posts here that it would be a better experience.
I'm going to close this Canny thread to help focus the discussion on what we can improve next, since the originally requested functionality has mostly been implemented.

Ivan Kanevski: Hi Ivan, I think the request is about having a shortcut to create a new task without being in the ClickUp app. Crtl J is not working on my Windows laptop.

Maarten Tigchelaar : Can you make sure you are running version 3.3.* at least? If you are stuck on an older version, you won't have all the latest functionality.

As crazy as this seems, even a new product like Clover has implemented Global New Task/Text feature and it works really well

Hey, everyone! Thank you for following along on this post and providing your feedback!
To keep everyone informed, we've updated the status of this Canny post to reflect current product initiatives.
This request is still very much on our radar and the ClickUp team will keep this post up to date when we have more to share regarding this feature in the future!

Can you please also include a Global New Doc hotkey, as I want to prevent cluttering my task inbox with random ideas, thoughts and notes? I'm now using the apple notes feature of moving the mouse to the corner of the screen for a new note to pop up, when I quickly want to capture ideas or meeting notes.

Keyboard Maestro makes quick work of this and is rather customizable:
- Triggered by global hot key (Power-T for task and using Power-R for reminder)
- Activate ClickUp
- Keystroke H (I prefer adding new tasks from Home)
- Simulate keystroke delay 0.5s (allow Home to load)
- Keystroke T (open the new task dialog)

Zeb how is this progressing? David Liprini's example using Todoist's functionality is the preferred solution although a the CMD+E option is good for now.

I'm new to ClickUp and the global hotkey to create tasks is a big part of my workflow. I need the ability to quickly capture Items which are sometimes a simple todo and others the start of something the needs to become a large project.
The current new task hotkey is a step in the right direction but actually creates more work since it defaults to the space/list I was in previously which may not be were I need to capture the information. Going to a global inbox like others have said by default would be great and having a quick capture dialog rather than bringing the full app to the front would make it actually quick.
For icing on the cake add some smart date processing and I'd be fully in love!
I really like the idea of having an app that can combine what I was doing in Trello, Jira, and Todoist so hopefully this feature will see additional enhancements

Cmd+E is a standard keyboard shortcut across lots of apps in MacOS (populate "find" from selection), which I use a LOT when programming. This change was quite disruptive for me and I had to close the desktop app because of it. I'm glad this thread led me to the way to disable it, but the setting was pretty buried.

The new CMD+E is a step forward, but a true quick capture will popup in whatever context you are and not change focus. In addition it will allow capture of task without having to change whatever task list is active or have to select the list. Should go always to a default "inbox" or list. Draftsapp is good implementation.

Now it's available 😻😻 ! It's CMD+E on Mac, and CRTL+E on windows
- Open the ClickUp Desktop App
- Go to My Settings and select Desktop App
- Toggle the Quick Create New Task shortcut on or off
- Update your keyboard shortcut to a different combination of keys by clicking on the current keyboard shortcut

Lucas CHERIFI: I'm on the Desktop App. When I click My Settings, there is not a Desktop App to select. Where am I missing it?
