Now that Formula fields are out, we would love to hear what you would like to see added to them. We still have plans to add more flexibility in the coming weeks!
Let us know how you plan on using Formula Fields 🙌

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for the great feedback and engagement on this request. We are actively exploring Formulas enhancements this year, and I encourage everyone who has voiced feedback here to also go upvote the more specific Formulas FRs we have open so we can get accurate vote counts for relative prioritization. We'll retire this one in favor of the more specific requests. Thanks!
Here are a few of the most upvoted FRs around Formulas:
- Formula Column Calculations (e.g., Sum): https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/formula-column-calculations
- More advanced functions: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/more-advanced-functions-in-formulas
- Use a formula field in another formula field: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/use-a-formula-field-in-another-formula-field
- Use any standard/custom field as a variable in a formula: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/use-any-standardcustom-field-in-formulas-not-just-number-and-date-fields
- Formula fields in Dashboards: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/formula-fields-in-dashboard
- Sort/filter/group by Formula columns: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/sort-filter-group-by-formula-type-custom-fields
- Formulas in automations: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/add-formula-fields-in-automations
Feel free to open a new FR if you don't see one that matches what you would like to see in Formulas!

It would be amazing to select number format in formula field, rather than using concat to get a percentage
If the same fields exist in other lists, then allow the formula to be used in that list as well. Today I can only use the formula in a single list, so I have to recreate the same formula. See screenshot

I am a new user to ClickUp and love it so far. For formula fields, I would love more options for displaying the result. Key features from the world of accounting and spreadsheets:
1) Option to center-align wihin the field, or right-align (esp. for currency and numeric values).
2) Configurable pre-fixes or suffixes (i.e. $ for currency, esp when calculated from non-currency fields, "SF" or "sq ft" for real estate projects, "days, wks, mos, etc." when caculating durations).
3) Dispaly a minus sign or use paranthesis for negative values
4) Option to display negative values in red
5) Number of decimal places. I like the option to always show 2 decimal places for currency, even for whole integers. Or option to always show 1-2 decimal places for percentage, for exactness.
6) Option to show comma/period for thousands separator. Some numbers need this and others do not. We commonly use 4-5 digit codes that should NOT be separated with commas...

Hi Voters! Thanks for your engagement on this Feature Request. We are currently scoping upcoming enhancements to the Formulas feature, and have a quick survey to get some additional information from you on how you are using Formulas today. Should take no longer than 3-5 minutes. Thanks in advance!

Closing in line with my comment last week - please use the feature specific Canny posts to upvote and provide feedback on any Formula improvements you would like to see implemented. Thanks!

Caroline Ginty: Great. Can you please also inculde the ability to use Rollups column results in the formulas?

Caroline Ginty: Awesome. Can we please have a formula specifically for BILLABLE hours, not just "Total Hours". I got 28 likes on my first mention of this and I don't want to let it go unnoticed. The ability to isolate billable hours would be enormously helpful for so many people.
Julian Pustkuchen
Caroline Ginty: Agree with Anthony Keal. Combined with a new "Status" (Select with: Billed, Under Review, ...) or at least a "Billed"(Checkbox) that would be super helpful in the process of tracking time and setting it billed, once it is. Formula is needed for both to fulfil the real world business requirements. :)
Caroline Ginty
Anthony Keal: Thank you for this feedback! How are you tracking billable hours today and/or differentiating them from Total Hours of tracked time? Another Custom Field?
Caroline Ginty
Thanks for this feedback! This would be in the scope of #4 above! Please feel free to upvote and add a comment there with any additional context you think would be valuable for us to know!
Anthony Keal
Caroline Ginty: We're not tracking billable vs. non-billable unfortunately due to ClickUp constraints.
Our clients pay for our services in fixed time blocks. In the example below, a 10-hour block. We use a formula to calculate (as a percentage) how much of a pre-paid block of time, a client has left to spend.
But
, without a formula for Billable
hours, this is inaccurate. This percentage is including ALL time, including non-billable as that's the only formula available in ClickUp --> "Tracked time". We need a formula for Tracked time AND a separate formula for
billable
time.Is this in the scope of any of the above feature requests?

Anthony Keal: Thanks for the example - super helpful. Here are a couple FRs that might capture what you are looking for.
- https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/option-to-set-billable-as-the-default-on-time-logging
One more question - correct to assume that you want to track billable time and also total time for a given task?
Anthony Keal
Caroline Ginty: That's right. More specifically though, the ability to have a "Billable time" option that we can use in
formulas
. Please see the below example.
That's all I'm (desperately) asking. I'm hoping that because ClickUp allows us to track billable time natively, this is a really easy addition.

It would be great to have formulas that can be setup to count characters. We used this functionality on SmartSheet to help our content creators with character limits on social media post creation.

I can't understand why it's impossible to sort by a formula's result or to use the formula in automations. These are so simple features that should have been there from day 1. They probably don't even take more than 1 day to implement and test on REST APIs.
What's the point of calculating fields if you can't use the results?
Justin Maxwell
I need to be able to sort tables by formula fields.
