Formula Column Calculations

It would be very nice for the Formula columns to be able to calculate at the bottom like other columns do.

Merged in a post:

Have the sum of formula type fields

Nadine Koriolis

I neeeed the total of the formulas column (wich could be different than the same formula applied to the total of used fields in the formula)

Rebecca Smith

Yay! Finally!

Jay Dave

This is a common sense. I don't know why ClickUp never though about this feature.

Aimee Mason

Caroline Ginty: Hi Caroline. Not seeing it, anything special needed to have it take effect?

Caroline Ginty

Aimee Mason: Nothing special should be required - have you tried giving it a quick refresh?

Aimee Mason

Caroline Ginty: Yep. It's a dollar amount $ derived by multiplying the time estimate by hourly rate. Advanced formula is "$"&(field("Time estimated in hours")*150) -- any reason that wouldn't be able to be calculated as a sum?

Amara Amzal

Caroline Ginty: Hi, the next urgent step is undoubtedly to make custom formula fields available in Dashboards (https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/formula-fields-in-dashboard).

Caroline Ginty

Aimee Mason: It's because you are appending the $, which means it's being read as text rather than a number, which is a known limitation right now. We'll be working to fix this, but if you remove the $ for now, it should work!

Alternatively, you could create a dummy Money field populated with the $150 for each task (& could hide it on the view to avoid clutter), and use that in your Formula, and it should work correctly.

Aimee Mason

Caroline Ginty: Makes sense! Thank you

Courtney Hernandez

Caroline Ginty: can you double check my company's workspace. Nothing seems to be happening on my end. I cleared cache/cookies as well just in case.

Caroline Ginty

Courtney Hernandez: It's the same issue Aimee was running into above; because you are appending an 'h' to your Formula value, the field is being read as a text output rather than a number output, which can't be summed. If you remove the appended 'h', you should see the option appear while we are working to better support this. Thanks!

Courtney Hernandez

Caroline Ginty: I thought that was the case. In the video it shows me removing the "h" and it did not work still?

Michael Montefusco

Hey Caroline Ginty, will we get a special notification if it is in our account? And is there any docs on the new capabilities so we know what we can experiment with?

Thanks so much!

Caroline Ginty

Michael Montefusco: It should be released to everyone later today! Here is the documentation in our Help Center: https://help.clickup.com/hc/en-us/articles/6308656424983-Calculate-using-Formula-Fields#h_01HG9DJGE561HQNA3FQG9YEG66

Jay Dave

Hi,

I have a calculation column that auto calculates as a Total Cost. I don't see this calculated at the bottom of my column. This is a common sense. I'm not sure why you wouldn't include this feature.

I also want to use this total calculated amount at the end of each column as a graph in my Dashboard. See the attached screenshot for more detail.

Thanks

Jay Dave

This is a common sense to add a Calculate option for the formula column. I don't know why ClickUp doesn't allow this.

William Fielding

Thanks for the update Caroline,

Does this include being able to use the results from a formula field, within another formula field?

e.g. Field D (fx) = Sum of Field A (#), Field B (#), Field C (#) = 100

Field X (fx)= Sum of Field D (fx), Field E (#)

Caroline Ginty

William Fielding: This is a separate feature request here: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/use-a-formula-field-in-another-formula-field, but one we hope to start work on soon.

Brian Gotts

This is great to hear. Looking forward to checking it out.

Can’t wait !

Caroline Ginty

Hi everyone! I'm excited to share that we have officially started rolling out our new Formulas capabilities (Column Calculations, Group, Sort, & Filter with Formula fields) for all Workspaces. Thank you to all our beta testers who provided feedback throughout - we are thrilled to get this into everyone's hands! We'll be incrementally releasing to additional Workspaces throughout this week (currently at 20%), and I will close out this request once it's 100% released. We look forward to hearing your feedback!

D

Dave Pasciuto

Caroline Ginty: Awesome! However, it doesn't seem like you can calculate custom formulas in a list? This is needed.

Caroline Ginty

Dave Pasciuto: That's exactly what this feature will support. You likely don't have access quite yet, we are rolled out to 20% of Workspaces at this time :)

Scott Clay

Caroline Ginty: That's great news! Been a long time coming...

D

Dave Pasciuto

Caroline Ginty: Oh okay! Sooo looking forward to it! Thank you for the prompt reply! btw I should be #1 on the list. ;D

Jason Vallina

Caroline Ginty: How do we get our workspace on this list? I attempted to join the beta testing but I guess I didn't make the cut, and have been really anxious to have this functionality. Is there an anticipated completion date for this roll-out?

Caroline Ginty

Jason Vallina: We plan to roll out to 100% of Workspaces by Thursday of this week. But give your Workspace a refresh now :)

Courtney Hernandez

Caroline Ginty: This great news!

Will the new update also include roll up totals on custom fields? Calculating custom formulas at the bottom of the lists is great and needed, but my team also needs the option to toggle total custom formula totals on an parent tasks. (Exactly to how Time Estimate and Time Tracked RollUp functions)

Jason Vallina

Caroline Ginty: I see some new functionality! It looks like I'm able to use custom fields in the formulas and do column calculations. Question: is there any plan to allow calculations on roll-up fields? Like, if I have a roll-up budget field that rolls up everything in a specific budget category, and then I want to subtract that number from the budget amount to get the remaining budget - will I be able to do something like that?

Juliana Stanisauskiene

Caroline Ginty: How do we get our workspace on list of having it already? :)))

A

Alaa Alhwarat

Caroline Ginty: I use it today the formual calcualtion work fantastic, I hope add it to the dashboards, you will help us.

S

Steve Johns

Caroline Ginty Hi the calculation seems to work for private spaces. But if I were to share the view as a public web link. The calculation is not shown for formula columns.
