Just to understand whats requested here. Is this about comment export only for a list of tasks? or about exporting all task details including comments?

Philipp Berner For me personally its all task details including comments. So it would mean compiling all the comments in the activity log and adding them to an additional column and the corresponding task row post export

Curious about what format for the comments would fit. One thing that comes to mind is storing all the comments of a Task in a JSON that we can have in the export.
What about comment text formatting? Would we just strip that? How about other linked tasks in a comment?
One thought on text formatting is we could have this in markdown.
Linked Tasks/People/Docs could also have it's own list per comment if we make this JSON.
As said, curious to hear what you're using this export list for. Whats the workflow you're trying to optimize?

Philipp Berner We use this data to generate tables and process data in excel as I have personally found it easier to do this outside of clickup since I only need to edit the time range and source of a single widget then export the data instead of doing that for multiple widgets within clickup to generate the same tables and processed data.
I agree the JSON would work well as the main information to make it easily understandable. The information I would want to see from the comments would be:
Username
Date,Time
Comment
With those sections of information each within separate square brackets
I also think a comment per column would be the better option since it will allow me to filter comments for specific information such as generating a list with all the comments or mentions of a specific user or phrase. However it would need to be the final column(s) by default so it dont interfere with lookups etc..
I don't use the linked tasks feature so I don't know how the data is exported differently so can't comment.
Happy to hear thoughts from your end to know how realistic this is or if there are thoughts from other users I haven't considered.

Reason: not all list are use for task (therefor comments are not always task/project oriented). We use list to keep track of competitors activity, for example. Each time we see something new, we put a comment with what we saw. For data analysis, we'd love to be able to export these.

I want to be able to send a complete task list with descriptions and comments as an email to a clients PM team for their records.
Or, I want a backup of what we’ve done in a list I want to delete or archive, or before giving access to a group of users (backup) ideally I could restore from this but find restoring or importing a list with subtasks to be very difficult as there are no substask details on import

This is really needed so that we could track a task with all updated comments with date stamps.

Not having this is going to limit the usefulness of Clickup with any process that requires documentation for auditing to be outside the operational system (which is most).

There should be an option to download all the comments or specified comments from a particular date range.
This should have separate columns for date, time, comment description, replies (in rows below the comment description), assignee, comment edited version history etc.
It's crucial for exporting conversations from the support function
