it would be good if this could be applied in the same way as the list view to the gantt view. There is a button to do it in the gantt view but if the view is protected it doesn't apply. You also can't have it expanded as the default in the gantt view

Yes the solution is not complete. I still need to click all items to show up in a nested list. I need shortcut or button top open all subtasks in 1 click.

I would like all the lists I own to be able to default set to "expand all", instead of having collapsed as the default (as noted in brackets in the options list). Or even just for the space as a whole. Or even the workspace as a whole. Just anything. Having to go in an expand subtasks every time I open any list in our system is annoying. It's the default setting that needs to be able to be changed.

Is it possible to expand all active subtasks? It would be great to be able to filter out backlogged subtasks from this toggle/view.

I second that; with a keyboard shortcut

Is this going to be available for Gantt charts soon?

This is currently solved in two ways!
You can have subtasks expanded always by choosing the "expand all".
Also, if you want a quick one-click action to expand only subtasks of a particular parent task, simply click on the number of subtasks that appear next to the parent task 🙂

Waleed Elaghil: Can we assume that when the infinite nested sub tasks and infinite nested sub folders feature request gets rolled out ..that they would have the ability to click on the plus sign to expand all the parent child hierarchy? Thanks

Waleed Elaghil: How do you make 'Expand all' the default, though? Afaik you can select 'Expand all' for one view, but as soon as you go to another view everything's back to 'Compact'.
Waleed Elaghil
Hey Brendan Jones! You'll have to first save the view as a template and then whenever you create a new Space, List or view you can load the saved view that included the "expand all" option. Please refer to this doc for more details: https://docs.clickup.com/en/articles/3126219-default-view-templates
Waleed Elaghil
John Janik: It's really hard to know this at the moment since we're still working on it. However, I'll surface this to the team 🙂

Waleed Elaghil: I appreciate your fast response. I cant express in words what a game changer it will be for the infinite nested sub tasks and sub folders rollout. I hope your team can expedite this.

Waleed Elaghil: So hitting this issue now that I'm re-modelling my hierarchy to make use of nester subtasks. Currently the subtask icon only show immediate direct subtasks. I think it either needs to show all nested subtasks or split it like 2/10 being 2 immediately nested tasks, and 10 in total. Or else having two buttons to reflect that.
When clicking this, I'd also like to have the ability to expand all. So if you had two buttons one could only exapnd below and the other expand all. Currently can also use the expand icon on left to exapnd one by one, so if keeping only one button, I think it should expand all.
Waleed Elaghil
Hey Phil Sim! It's working fine from my side (please see attached GIF). You might need to refresh the page or clear your browser's cache, otherwise, send us at help@clickup.com and we'll help you out 🙂

Waleed Elaghil: Hi Waleed, I understand I can expand all subtasks all at once, but that's not what I'm referencing.
Firstly, the issue of visibility of subtasks. As you can see if your GIF you have one of those tasks, which have one subtask, but then there are multiple subtasks under that. So from a collapsed point of view, I can have no awareness of how many subtasks are actually under there. If you are only going to give one figure I think it needs to be the total number of nested subtasks. If there is one subtask underneath, and 50 more subtasks nested under that one. then I do not get any grasp of the complexity of that task by just seeing 1 subtask under the main task.
Secondly, I'd like to expand all tasks from a parent task, not all tasks in the entire grid. The direction I would think would be the best way to do this, is the user can expand one level down by using the triangle expand/collapse on left side, but if you click the subtasks icon to right of the task, it expands all of the subtasks under that task.
For our use case, we are tying or our work to a small number of company objectives (our parent tasks), and then cascading down from there to ensure our work is aligned to our objectives. So being able to navigate smoothly down that hierarchy of nested tasks is really important.
Waleed Elaghil
Hey Phil Sim! I agree with you on the first point. I'll definitely surface this to the team 🙂
For the second point, you can achieve this by changing the Subtasks to "Hide" (see the Gif!)
Thank you!

Waleed Elaghil: Thanks Waleed. I wish there was a quicker & easier way to make expand all a default vs a template. Like an option to "make default for this space." (time to go learn how to use the templates, hahaha)

I chose Subtasks "Show" option and did a save layout. This only affects the list that is save. Other lists will still shows Subtasks "Hide".

Yes! +1 to this. Always clicking to show subtasks is super annoying. Personally I'd rather subtasks always be expanded, and have an arrow on the parent task itself to collapse/show subtasks if needed.
