"Today" should be relative, not fixed to the date that the automation was edited
Jordan Randolph
Allow users to choose how they would like "today" to be used. Automations should be able to check against due dates each day by using the "today" option. If we wanted to set a fixed date for "today" we can already set that.

Enable relative dates for start and due date actions in Automations

Enhance automations by allowing the use of relative dates instead of fixed dates.
For example, set a due date as "Start Date + 1 day" or "Today + 7 Days" when a form is submitted.

Yes! Relative dates like "Today + 7 days" or "Start Date + 1 day" instead of frozen dates - we are tracking this one. Merging to consolidate votes, thanks!

For those missing a relative "Today" in order to compare with due dates in automations, I found a slightly different method. (I still think the above/parent feature should be included.)
Under whatever trigger you set for an automation, you can add an AND condition of "Current Date Is" and set it to "Before" or "After" to only affect upcoming or past tasks. For me, I set the trigger to reoccur daily and added this filter; it let me perform the automation I wanted.
This doesn't let you update any dates with a rolling "Today" date, which is why I think this parent feature should still be implemented.

It would be helpful to have "date - 7 days" to set the due dates for tasks that need to come before it another task.

Hi, I have automations that change task status based on the due date (for example, if Due Date < Today, set to Overdue). The problem is that “Today” gets locked to the day I created the automation and doesn’t update automatically. Honestly, as many users have already pointed out in the forum, it doesn’t make sense for “Today” to behave as a static date — that’s what the calendar is for. We really need relative dates in automations that recalculate every day without having to rely on daily triggers.

It would be great if you could automate the date of the new task with the same date of the activation task. This, for example, when creating a task to be executed in a location, mobilization tasks can be created automatically but with the same date as the execution task.

This would be a game changer

I want to automatically set the start date to be one month before the due date when the due date is set/changes.

If possible allow users to use a custom number field to do a simple calculation for number of days.
For example. When Task becomes unblocked, set (due date)/(start date) to the [Trigger date + (Custom Field # Days for that task)]
Examples
- Each task can have an estimated number of days for completion. However, if the task is blocked, the work cannot be started. So when the task is unblocked, it would be nice to automatically calculate and set the due date so the assignee knows when the task is due.
This will be really great for client project templates and will help in generating actual due dates for an overall project that has dependencies.

PLEASE NO NEW FEATURES UNTIL THIS WORKS SENSIBLY. It is utterly useless to have a "today" or "tomorrow" option that is FIXED ON THE DATE.
This request is nearly five years old. (or, to put it in ClickUp automations terms, it was created "TODAY" but five years ago.) 🫠
Is it even on the roadmap?
