due dates for assigned checklist items

If assigned to checklist item but not on the overall task, reflect on Home based on task due date. Otherwise checklist items assigned to me can be overlooked.

There was another thread, years ago, with the request. There was not progress that I know of :( It's a pretty simple thing: Make checklist, assign items to people, and then assign dates for each item. Just about every management platform can do thus
except for
ClickUp. I would trade all the AI, whiteboard, and other fancy features just to have this. (Right now we use subtasks instead, but it causes a lot of confusion, especially for new team members). Happy to drop in a video or answer a call if anyone at ClickUp would like a walkthrough as to why this is needed!Adrian Tkaczyk
I'll give you a simple example. we use clickup to introduce the product to the market. the main task is the product. individual key tasks to achieve the goal are subject to subjugation. Unfortunately, to complete such a task, several actions are required by different people. for example, entering information and then checking the information. If we were to use only subtasks, there would be several hundred of them. checklists are necessary and it is necessary to assign dates to them, and they must be visible in the my work section and in notifications, because otherwise we cannot fully implement the product implementation project on the market.
please add these features, it's definitely not a complicated implementation.

We really need this! We're having to add a custom date field to track the 'next deadline' as a work around. It's not ideal!

Many users don't even know they need this function until later on as they advance with their understanding of using features and needs. So you may not get as many requests for any advanced user feature.
Jenna Tyson
Yes! Agree. Checklist items need to have the ability to be assigned a due date!
Elina Jungo
Yes please! This would lead into less subtasks and therefore more checklist items and this would help for a better overview

And also add an additional toggle layer for checklist to have this additional due date option over the current default feature where it does not have it.
Found out someone dropeed this...

I actually don't see the need for this or welcome any further complexity to Checklists (conversely we'd like the ability at a site-wide level to disable assignees on Checklists to avoid confusion. This is what we did previously in Jira).
Solution:
Just turn on 'Nested Subtasks' in your ClickApps and expand the levels to suit your teams needs (we stopped at 3 as you also don't want things getting too nested and buried).
Our team's methodology revolves around:
- Parent Tasks (projects and sometimes span multiple assignees)
- Subtasks (project broken down and to individuals and their roles & responsibilities)
- Checklists we reserve as a personal decision if an asignee feels the need to break their own task down to smaller chunks (this is personal and subjective)
In addition, Checklists never surface in Lists and Boards (only Tasks and Subtasks - when displayed as 'separate tasks') so we've never considered assigning these to multiple people as they would get missed in all planning views!

Will the overall checklist be able to have a due date, ie conplete all 10 items by x date. Or only the individual items on checklist? And dependencies between checklists?

Hey all! I have a follow up question for this request. Can you let me know what you think? https://www.loom.com/share/6d85b5c5bd6e43a1862d9ea87d8cf1c2

Zach - ClickUp: Personally, I use checklists a lot and it would be beneficial to have an actually due date that you could choose to assign to have the checklist items completed by. And yes, I would expect for these items to show up on the dashboard just like a subtask.

Zach - ClickUp: yes, to have assigned checklist items on the home to-so in that fashion, even when the overall task is not assigned to same user.
Also, agree with Andrea that checklist item due dates separate from task due date would be incredibly helpful. But if the checklist item does not have a due date, default to task to due date.

Zach - ClickUp: Agree with the other commenters here and in the Loom video comments - would love it to look like a subtask but with a check list icon, and reflect the due date of that checklist item if set, or the due date of the task if not. This would be so helpful for me!
Ben Porter
Zach - ClickUp: I think that would be a helpful option, so that if you are assigned a checklist item, but not the task, you can still find it from your homepage.
