Dropdown (Custom Field) too small, can't see Options

Even if I only show one column in list view for a Dropdown Custom Field, the dropdown list is too small in width and I can only see a very small part of the options.
PROBLEM: This is unusable when the options are longer words or multiple words, when they look similar and/or when they have number suffixes (see attached GIF demo)
CURRENT: While I can hover the options to see the full names, it takes too long to hover each one of them until I find the right one when there are many options.
EXPECTED: when triggering the dropdown, auto-resize it to have the width of the longest option
