Docs should include @ mentions

now that we can add tables to docs, thanks for that, it would be nice to be able to @ mention people in docs

I think it should too!

I would suggest that this is not limited to just people, but allows @ referencing other concepts such as tasks, lists and other pages.
(Which coincedentally is the workflow used in Notion & Coda)
Kirk Mullis
GJ Roelofs: you can do tasks already, but i like the idea of being able to link any Clickup item
Kirk Mullis
anyone who is into this suggestion might also be into this other one that i submitted: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/ability-to-convert-notes-into-pages
Kirk Mullis
woul be good to have this in Notes too
Lee Fuhr
Kirk Mullis: Yeah, essentially text editing everywhere should be consistent. If it's rich text, I want to be able to @ mention people and # link to tasks.
Kirk Mullis
Lee Fuhr: 100%

i actually found this one too and it has more upvotes https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/possibility-to-mention-into-doc-page-views-app

Zeb Is this not planned elsewhere?
Zeb
Benjamin: Hm not sure, but definitely planned!
Benjamin
Zeb: Ok that will do 🤣

Exactly, like how it's possible in the "next generation" productivity tools like Notion and Coda, so ClickUp would keep it up with those competitors.
Kirk Mullis
Rudolf Nanne: i just discovered notion and it's amazing. wouldn't work for my work team, clickup is better suited for that, but notion maybe taking over my use of workflowy, google keep and google tasks. i do like to hand write notes with a stylus from time to time and sketch ideas, so once they get that, it might be my number one personal app

Kirk Mullis: We recently chose for ClickUp because it's complete, mature and therefore we believe best suitable for teams. But what the newcomers are doing looks very promising and well described in this article. I hope ClickUp will head in same direction!
- Domain Generalization. There are no specific entities like Tasks and Projects anymore. Specialization is gone. Everything is very fluid and you can define your own semantic. It means you can relatively easy use a tool to track Leads in simplistic CRM or User Stories in software development project.
- UI Generalization. There are various ways to see information: Tables, Lists, Timelines, Kanban Boards, etc. All vendors try to generalize UI this way. Old vendors try to keep up with this trend as well, see how Asana and JIRA added Timelines recently. Interestingly, the first implementation of UI Generalization appeared in Targetprocess in 2013.
- Automation. Users are becoming more savvy and want to automate boring actions. Even in latest iOS release there are automation rules. No wonder work management software should keep up. Coda gets Automation very seriously, Airtable less seriously and other vendors rely on Zapier (so far).
- Document-oriented approach. Most new vendors rely on documents or spreadsheet to handle work. Documents are becoming really rich with visual widgets, interactivity and subsections. Coda takes this approach to extreme claiming that “Document is an App”, Notion tries to do almost the same.

Rudolf Nanne: I would love for clickup to embrace the concepts you outlined. They are making progress I think on your #2 and 3 and 4.
I worry about #1 the most: their sales docs still insist that a task in a list is somehow magic, when in practice it is just a productivity killer. Lists and folders and all non-work objects should be eliminated in favor of a flexible modular element.
TargetProcess is good at work object modularity: you can promote and demote an element as needed as you work on it and it changes shape, you get to decide if it's an epic or a task or a project etc. as development dictates. Wrike also has been doing this since 2003!
Rudolf Nanne
Bruce Cannon: Yes, exactly. I hope ClickUp is reading with us. At least they should let their users give the choice by toggle such functionality on or off as with the ClickApps.
Regarding 2. UI Generalization and 4. Document-oriented approach, and similar to "next-generation" Notion and Coda, I think ClickUp's next step can be easy:
"Views" as List/Boards/Gantt/Conversation etc. should be replaced by one view only, a "universal document", and the views transformed into "building blocks" so you would be able to add each of these views, and side by side, into that universal document.
