With https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/disabling-auto-assinging-watchers we got the ability to choose to not be added as a watcher when creating a task. This is wonderful!
However we're still added as a watcher when:
- Editing a task
- Commenting on a task
Please add to Watcher Settings the options to not automatically be added as a watcher to tasks you edit or comment on. These should be separate options.

Hi, I ran into a similar issue but a little bit different.
My issue is every time I create a task, one of my Guests always auto-assigns as a watcher. I cannot find a way to disable this feature.

Still added as watcher automatically when using Zapier integration

Hey, guys! 👋
It took a little longer then expected, but we heard you, and we got it done!
You'll now find two new settings on the Notification Settings page that will allow you to control when you are added as a watcher to tasks! 💥
- When I edit a task or subtask
- When I comment on a task or subtask
We hope this alleviates the issues, and as always please let us know if you have any questions or additional feedback!

Brendan W: it can still be frustrating that if someone @mentions you in a task, it also automatically adds this mentioned person as a watcher. Team-leads are often @mentioned to quickly ask opinions, but they don't need to watch the whole discussion unfold afterwards. It would be good if this can be configured. (also check Miguel Diaz' comment below)

Adding my comment here as I know the ClickUp staff moderates these comments/requests and uses them to feed their planned updates. Hopefully, the more voices the merrier.
I agree with everyone in this thread. For anyone who creates a template, space, folder, list, or series of tasks, it can be incredibly frustrating to be automatically assigned as a watcher to any future duplicated versions of those items. Also, when building out task assignments to be completed by another team member, it's very tedious work going through every single task and subtask removing yourself so that you don't receive irrelevant notifications. This can be a major bottleneck especially if in a fast-paced environment.
I look forward to the ClickUp team getting this feature fixed so that we can toggle on/off the use of automatic watchers and/or only add watchers manually.

According to this article https://help.clickup.com/hc/en-us/articles/6309004688663-Manage-task-watchers users are automatically added as watchers
When you're mentioned in a task.
When a task is assigned to you.
When you edit a task name or description.
When you comment on a task.
When a task comment is assigned to you.
When you create a new task.
When you or someone else manually adds you as a watcher using the eye icon.
When you are added as a watcher by Automations.
There should be an option to configure when you're automatically added as a watcher on the actions listed above.

I agree with everyone else, not only is it critical to fix this in the UI, but also in the API. Currently using the API to comment on a task results in the user running the automation being subscribed to the task as a watcher. I built all the automations so now I get spammed to death with notifications!

I completely agree with all comments. Not only how painful it is for admins, but in our case, we have a team looking out for Tasks just over the weekend, but since they leave comments, they receive notifications of everything that happens on the week because they are automatically added as watchers... This is extremely useless for them as they miss notifications that are actually for them.
As managers, they don't need to know every single piece and bite of things that happen with our Tasks when I was just asking them one question in a comment.
I loveeee ClickUp but overall a think the "watcher" feature is practically useless. Being able to disable it completely would be very appreciated.

These really needs to be solved asap.
I spend entirely too much time removing myself as a watcher because I am the one creating our company's workflows.
My notification section is a hot mess and makes it impossible for me to understand when something is actually waiting on me.

This issue creates a huge amount of work for me to perform in order to ensure I'm not bombarded with notifications.
Every time I forget to remove myself as a watcher from a series of 20 tasks I regularly assign to my team for each client, I get flooded with notifications that aren't relevant to me as people get to work

Agree, this is adding a ton of unnecessary admin work as a scrum master for my team.
Whenever I edit a task, ClickUp automatically adds me as a watcher and if I forget to select all tasks, add myself as a watcher and immediately remove myself as a watcher, my inbox and notifications get flooded whenever activity occurs around those tasks.
Will be really helpful to either disable the feature in the background or add another toggle in the notification settings such that automatic watching of tasks can be turned off when creating a task and/or when editing a task.
