Disable Watchers for a Space

Alex Howard
Allow admins or owners to easily disable watchers for a Space. This same logic could be applied to Folders and Lists.

This would be an amazing feature to help us see the notifications that matter. Each little task within a job is absolutely not important for our managers to see. And our employees don't need to know when a task status changes just because they happened to work on that task once at the beginning of the project.
For us, we need ALL notifications turned off except @mentions. We handle assignments and daily project focus in our morning stand up meeting. Each person knows the PROJECTS they need to focus on. Once they go into that project, they can then see the exact tasks they need to do that day.
As a manager, we don't need to know when each of the small tasks is done. We need to know, at the end of the day, where the project stands. We communicate this verbally since we're a small office of 6.

In the interest of more voices being helpful to illustrate the wide audience that uses clickup (and functionality that clickup partners could utilize for unique usecases)
Would absolutely love if we treated watchers as a clickapp that we can toggle on or off on a space level. In some use cases it makes a lot of sense to have watchers to indicate when a task needs extra support or to ensure that the task timeline is being honored (ie training modules, support pipelines, etc)
However, there are a lot of cases where this becomes burdensome and a big friction point for team adoption-- even bigger impossibility to monitor team adoption on an admin level. I really appreciate the settings update for notifications that we received for watchers, but it's a functionality that is ultimately not helpful for my services team in an agency setting... and it can create a lot of unnecessary noise + tool learning for my team to accomplish clickup adoption for their day to day. Right now I'm trying to ID my teammates who need additional training/support to learn the tool with a dashboard to monitor notification + task completion-- and I'm seeing incredibly high numbers of notifications that through investigation are coming in large part through watcher automatic assignments + notifications that don't suit the collaboration needed for these items.
I think that having it has a clickapp would be very beneficial as admins could be educated on what 'watchers' is used for and can create a roadmap for this feature as it suits their team. I think this feature is a layer of complication that is well intended (hey, who doesn't want to help improve visibility!!) but ultimately is a big mountain to climb, especially if you're dealing with large projects with a lot of tasks and a large team... We all know it doesn't take much to get notification numbness when there's a lot of meaningless pings flying your way!
I appreciate the development and strategy team's involvement in this matter, and look forward to updates on this! I think it will really widen the net for clickup's application and audience flexibility (the thing that we all love about clickup!) Thanks!

Please!!! Capability remove/add watchers for spaces, folder and lists would be absolutly amazing! I'm getting crazy amount of notifications everyday which makes it very hard to manage a large team.

CU2.0. A quick way to 'unwatch' self from a folder and everything in it.

I'm getting lots of notifications from tasks that I must have become a watcher for at some point.
I want to 'unwatch' these sub-tasks, but also the parent task but also all the other sibling tasks in the list, and all the tasks in the sibling list.
There doesn't seem to be a way to do this quickly unless I'm missing something. It would be good if there was an 'unwatch'/'watch' button at the Folder and List level.
It would also be good if I could select multiple folders/lists and make such changes to all in one go.
Perhaps it would be useful to have a view that shows me all the folders/lists and the contained tasks/subtasks that I am a watcher of.
Thanks as always

I second and third this. This would be a welcomed feature add. Thanks.

Definitely need a way to mass-unwatch lists/folders/spaces as well. Is there any workaround for this?

Jess Choi: You can click on a space, set the Group By to none and Subtasks to As separate tasks. Then click the select all box (hover over the left side of the "xxxx tasks" link at the top left of the list). Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page even though it will take you ages as it loads and loads. Then use the bulk edit tools at the top of the page to set watchers to unassigned. We just did this on ours and it worked. But keep in mind that for now, any new assignments will automatically make that person a watcher. So you'll have to assign, then immediately remove them as a watcher.
