Different task status options for parent tasks versus the subtasks.
For example, a parent task for a customer proposal could have "in progress, submitted" and the subtasks for that could have "task complete". We have people choose an incorrect status option for the type of status it is.

Hi - this would be extremely helpful for our process flow. We have complicated statuses to manage change management in Lists but we have more execution based subtasks and it would be way easier to manage if this was possible.

Yes please, this feature would enable a lot. e.g. for CRM just status on parent task is contact health vs for subtasks it is more a task oriented status (to do, in progress, on hold, completed)

I work in Kanban with my team where we follow a specific development pipeline (statuses): Planned, Assigned, Work in Progress, Blocked, Ready for internal testing etc.
In total there are 8 statuses for the main pipeline.
We use a lot of sub-tasks to complete Tasks. Unfortunately they inherit the statuses from the Main Task which makes them more complex than necessary and therefore unreadable when vieweing the board. For sub-tasks I would like to be able to define a custom states.
In my example that would be very simple: New, Work In Progress, Blocked, Complete
Please implement a possibility to define custom statuses for tasks and sub-tasks separately.

Caroline Ginty would it be easier to make it different statuses by Task Type since TTs are already built out? Because a lot of times the Tasks and Subtasks are different Task Types. Just a thought.

I am working with Large Org. and this is the primary requirement. Which is currently full filled with dropdown ...which is lame solution

AMAZING Matthew Burt. First time I've seen anyone break down ClickUp's status scheme. This should be pinned somewhere!

Please, this and ordering the custom fields inside of the task view are a big need for my company.

If you are tracking clients and use tasks as the client record (client name), with subtasks utilized as tasks required to complete for that client (task). In this scenario, the end user completing the task can get confused. Think the partent task might have status of "Client Active" and "Client Inactive". From here, subtasks will inherit those task statuses with current features as of 11/6/25. When in fact, the subtask statuses need to be "Task Open" and "Task Closed", since those are considered to be tasks to be complete for the parent task, in this case the client name.
I have had to create a completly separate custom field to organize client records just so the task status can say "Task Open" and "Task Closed" as alluded to above. But now i am running into issues with adding those tasks to multiple lists, becasue the inherting list expects an open task, and we close many of these tasks and use the custom field status we manually created.
