Update Nov 2025: This feature is still on our radar, but not on the committed roadmap at this time. We are hoping to get to this soon, and I'll keep this request updated with anything new as we move forward.

Caroline Ginty Zeb Evans Please, put this on the roadmap. So needed.

We run a sales/project pipeline in Kanban. Main tasks move through pipeline stages (e.g. Lead → Proposal → Active → Done). Within each task, we need action items (subtasks) that:
- have an assignee
- have a due date
- are simply Open or Done — no pipeline status workflow
None of the current options solve this cleanly:
- Subtasks inherit pipeline statuses → confusing for the team
- Checklist items support assignees but no due dates
- Assigned comments support assignees but no due dates
- Two parallel lists (the current workaround) work technically but create overhead and break the natural workflow inside a task
The fix we need: allow subtasks to use a different, simpler status set than their parent task — ideally configurable at list or folder level. This is the single most impactful change for pipeline-based workflows.

That would be extremely helpful

What is the use of task types if the different types cannot have it's own task statuses? A task type "Lead" should have sales statuses (new, lead, qualified, quoted...), but a task type "task" should have to do/solved/done. Inside a sales CRM project, this should be the norm. I create a new lead, and from there I assign sub-tasks to the teams (pre-sales, IT, vendors...) to gather documentation or do work to be able to quote for that lead, and continue the project once awarded. makes no sense to create a sub-task to my pre-sales team, and the statuses are sales type...

Enjoying working with ClickUp so far overall, but this is rather a fatal flaw in my setup, at least if I want things to be named correctly for what they are

Please make it so that we have the option to have custom statuses based on task type!!

Allow subtasks to have different statuses from parent task

In many instances, the parent task has a set workflow of statuses, but the parent task have a different workflow (in our case, subtask is often just to do, in progress, on hold, done). It would be great to have the ability to set different statuses for subtasks different from the parent task

Please create this!

FOR OUR SAKE -- AND YOURS! As a longtime tech journalist and industry analyst, I understand the features arms race needed to gain market share. Without basic functionality like this, however, evaluators and users may not stick around long enough to try the whiz-bang AI stuff. ClickUp is a relatively young company. You're at a stage where users are deciding if you're truly customer-focused. Or just another arrogant tech firm that prioritizes ITS goals over ours. Eight years is an unpardonably long time to wait! What's the issue??? Please don't be one of those product groups and managers who think they know better than their paying customers. Gain market advantage by prioritizing this and other user requests, and you will earn loyal customers for life! Adding a loud and sincere voice. PLEASE ADD THIS!
