Dependent Custom Fields (options depend on other options)
George
We would like the ability to make custom fields dependent on each other in the same way that tasks are now.

Feature Request - Hierarchical/Nested Dropdown Custom Fields
Yasmim
Hi ClickUp Team,
I'd like to request a feature that would significantly improve how we organize and categorize tasks: hierarchical or nested dropdown custom fields.
Use case:
We work with content categorization that requires multiple levels of taxonomy. For example:
Category: Healthy Living
└── Tier 1: Wellness
└── Tier 2: Alternative Medicine
└── Tier 3: Herbs and Supplements
Current workaround:
We're forced to create multiple separate dropdown fields (one for each tier) or use visual prefixes like "— —" to simulate hierarchy in a single field. Both solutions are clunky and make filtering and reporting difficult.
Requested feature:
- Native support for parent/child relationships in dropdown custom fields
- Cascading dropdowns where Tier 2 options depend on Tier 1 selection
- Ability to filter and report at any level of the hierarchy
This would be extremely valuable for teams managing content taxonomies, product catalogs, departmental structures, or any multi-level categorization system.
Thank you for considering this request.
Best regards

Yasmim Thanks for this feedback! I'm going to merge this into the larger Feature Request we have for this use case.

Fields based on other custom fields
liam broadbent
I had an idea where i have 3 custom fields, with 3 dropdowns, and based on those chosen across the fields, i want 1 extra action field (formula maybe?) to show the next course of action? really i want this to use a combo eisenhower matrix / action plan matrix to organise my tasks better.
I dont think its possible right now?

Missing Hierarchical (Parent–Child) Dropdown Structure in Custom Fields
Miraç AKÇA
Hello,
In ClickUp, it is not possible to create a hierarchical dropdown custom field with a clear parent–child (main category–subcategory) structure.
Dropdown options cannot be linked hierarchically, meaning that selecting a main category does not trigger or restrict the available subcategory options. All options exist at the same level, which prevents proper category–subcategory modeling.
From an IT and data modeling perspective, the lack of hierarchical dropdown support makes structured data entry, standardization, and reporting difficult.
Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards,
Miraç AKÇA

I want a filter, for example, a dropdown field values based on another field value, such as filtering the projects (Dropdown Field) based on the Country (Dropdown Field) or based on a Client (People Field) or other fields

Dependent (nested) Dropdown/Label values

I would like to be able to have a dependent drop down list where when I enter in a criteria, it changes what is shown in the dropdown list. Lets say I choose a specific Vendor, I want to be able to filter my Items to Order list by that Vendor. Maybe some sort of relationship or lookup could be used as well. Being able to Tag items in the dropdown list would also accomplish this so when I type in the tag name in the search bar it shows only those items.
Vendor
A
B
C
Items to Order
Vendor A Item 1
Vendor A Item 2
Vendor B Item 1
Vendor B Item 2
Vendor C Item 1
Vendor C Item 2
When I select Vendor A, I would like to only see in my dropdown list.
Vendor A Item 1
Vendor A Item 2

Custom Field Logic > Other Custom Field
Allison Cherry
I would love the capability to tie custom fields together with logic. When one custom field is selected, based on the choice made another custom field has distilled options based on the first choice.
Example, user chooses from 1 of 4 options in custom field for 'audience'. If audience is 'employees' then another custom field is populated with choices of what type of employees: Executive, General, Prospective.
